Dennis Ritchie and Steve Jobs died about the same time. The world was agog with Jobs' achievements, and without wanting to take anything away from the man, I'll just say he was more of a marketing genius than a true technologist.
One could say the same in regard to Elon Musk. That being said both were visionaries that could drive the people and do what others said that could not be done.
Windows and mice were first developed by Xerox, but no one had heard of them until Jobs brought it to the masses with the Mac (we'll forget about Lisa that was not much of a success). People were also making fun of the iPhone when it was first announced.
BTW, not minimizing the other guys. Heck, I still have a copy of the White Book (C programming language) by K&R.
