I as well would probably pick my browning BLR in .308, it is a compact and slick package for swamp bucks and black bear, but it seems the last several years I’ve been using my ruger no.1 rsi in 7x57 more often.

You really can't beat the medium bores for short copies blood trails and minimal meat damage. They also are not fussy about bullet weights or powders. Just don't get caught up in max velocity as they don't need all that speed to do the job.View attachment 481781
Mine, so far, is my little Rem 700 I had bored to .358 win. 20" barrel (it started life as a youth model in .243) Brown's Precision 'Poundr' stock, Vx2 2-7x33. It's folded up every single animal I've shot with it. Light, handy & accurate. What's not to love!
