Wyoming style chariot racing

During the 1976 or so near Rock Springs Wyoming I came across a group of ranchers, farmers and general locals entertaining themselves complete with a person designated to hold side bet money. BYOB. Has anyone else seen or heard of outlaw chariot racing. Not exactly hunting but I’m sure most of the participants did.

That just looks like too much fun. They must have watched Ben-Hur too many times.

Did not do that ,but pulled around an old car hood behind a horse. Got pretty western a time or two.

Come to think of it I have been pulled by horse with rope tied to a grain shovel. Kind of a drag race four or five teams at a time. This was an organized event put on during a trail ride. No broken bones. Good old days, I guess.

That’s called cutter racing. We still do that here in Wyoming.

What time of year? Organized or local events? I kind of surprised but glad it is still happening.

It’s typically in the winter months. They usually have the championships in March over in Star Valley. I don’t know how organized it is. Lots of beer lots of fun. It usually draws 4 or 500 people. Mostly something to do at the end of a long winter.

I have not seen that. But I have watched the chuck wagon races in Calgary. Great fun to watch, but it’s really just a beer drinking event.

Elko, NV used to have these races also, great time watching! The desert horse racing scene in NM used to be another must see event.
