    My new (used) Krieghoff Double in 500/416 is regulated for the Woodleigh 410 grain bullet. I have never used Woodleigh before but know they have a good reputation. In researching the brand I came across the captioned bullet. It is meant to replace both the soft point and Solid bullet having the best qualities of both. My question is has anyone used these bullets in Africa or on Animals. Any reviews?

    My second question is if this is gun is regulated with this 410 grain bullet at @2325fps, what methodology would I use for a 400 grain barnes? Would I try to match the fps or just trial and error until it regulates properly. I will tell you the Hornady ammo (only stuff I could find), 400 grains was spot on vertically but the barrel did cross and were 3 1/2 inches apart at 50Yards.

    Thanks.

    I am technologically deficient, not sure how to post video here, so I posted in the video section of us shooting the gun this weekend on some poor defenseless fruit!

    I used woodleigh hydro on buffalo and hippo and they worked just fine. I like them a lot.

    I have not hand loaded for them but I advise you do NOT work up loads on any modern mono metal without direct data from the manufacturer. They do not engrave as much on the rifling as they are mostly undersized and rely on driving bands. It increases velocity and decreases pressure. A traditional solid is just the opposite, harder to engrave and greater pressure.

    Point is, every solid is different and with any modern improvement, you need THEIR data, not a competitors, to make sure you're playing safe.

    I have used Woodleighs in my Krieghoff .470 since I bought the gun. My gun was regulated with Federal ammo but
    I had Safari Arms develop a load for it with the Woodleigh bullets, very happy with them and have taken lion (softs), hippo (solids) and blue wildebeest (softs) with the gun

    I have bought a box in 375H&H 300 grain.... have not used yet. However, the reviews were very good that I had read, and some of the pics I had seen, the bullet actually resembled the North Forks a lot. Heard nothing but awesome things about those, and this was a store bought round.

    I wish we could get "Doctari" on here to give his expertise as a scientist and DVM.

    My question: "Doctari, is the sheer and hydrostatic shock damage significant enough that these new mono solids are doing damage equal or greater than a soft?"

    Where was the buff taken? I just ordered my first double in 9.3x74R and really want to take one with that gun but see it doesn't meet the minimums in most places.

    Regrettably haven't seen him in quite a while. I suspect the whole captive lion thing put him off. His extraordinary experience would be invaluable w/r to this question and so many others. I used the hydro on a black bear last year from a 9.3x64. (9.3 hole going in and 9.3 going out and a tremendous amount of damage in between). Bear died in it's tracks. I am bringing them in .375 to Moz in October. My R8 shoots them into a single ragged hole. Will have a box of A-Frames along only because I am a bit nervous of a pass-through if we end up in the Delta trying to snipe a bull out of one of the huge herds. Pass-through would be a problem.

    Do you suspect these new hydros will displace need for expanding Bullets?

    There are those that feel the North Fork Cup Point Solids do.

    I am impressed with my extremely limited experience, but it seems to follow what I read everywhere else (w/r to both the Woodleigh and the North Fork variants). My one concern is hunting buffalo in a herd (as it would be with any normal solid). Wounding a cow on the offside of world class bull would complicate an already interesting experience. In every other situation that I have experienced, waiting for an animal to clear has not been an issue. And most of us do that anyway regardless of quarry.

    Watching this post with interest, have just ordered some 400gn Woodleigh Hydros for my Merkel double in .400 Jeffery. It's regulated with the 400gn Woodleigh RNSN.

    We use those bullets all the time on water buffalo / banteng in northern Australia. I have not used them personally but the reviews are very good. Nobody has a bad thing to say about them. They would be my first choice for hunting the big bovines. Best of luck.

    Received this from Woodleigh. Please note that I asked for reloading data that might coincide with the regulated load I am currently using.

    We have limited data for the 500/416. Here is some for FMJ and hydro solids;

    500/416 400 gr Hydro;

    H4831SC 97 gr 2275 fps

    Vihtavouri N160 89.5 gr 2245 fps

    We recommend a magnum primer. The rifle should regulate with these loads, you may have to increase, or reduce the charge to get best grouping.
