Anyone had one to try out?

I was curious, been looking at vintage Browning BAR's and its said these rifles are made by FN, sort of a BAR clone.

Can't see why it couldn't be done with just a barrel change. It came out in 30-06 and a couple of magnum cartridges so it will handle the pressure no issue.
Feeding should be no worries either.
If you want to be really interesting get an original WW11 selective fire BAR with a 20round mag. Self it in full auto and have fun. You shoulder may not like it but what a hoot. Ha Ha Ha Ha.
Seriously tho I can't see a problem.

It should work.... Interesating project for sure

not sure I like the msn link about burning ballots tho....

I bought a BAR in 7 rem mag as a donor rifle for a 416 Taylor, but the company that was doing them are not taking back orders and I understanding it could not be used in Africa because it was a semi-auto. Not sure if the Winchester has a real niche to fill?

Yes I’m sure most hunting destinations in Africa won’t allow the use of a semi auto but it would be a cool rifle to have in some country’s.

The BAR in .338Win was used in Australia by many Sambar hunter’s & a few Buffalo hunters, I remember some in .458Win also .

I would hope it is lighter than the BAR, recoil aside. A BAR is 338 win mag will do all most would need it to do. At least I would think so. But you're right it would be cool!

I'm not really sure, but I think FN manufactures the barrel and the rifle is assembled in Portugal.
I handled a couple of Winchester SRX, but only in 7x64 and .300 Winchester magnum. I know someone who has one in 9.3x62, but so far, I have never had the opportunity to try it on target.

In the past, I saw some hunters who had Browning Bar Long track in that caliber, but it is not the most popular caliber for such rifle, at least where I stay, even if it's an excellent caliber for driven hunt.

The 9.3x62 is very picky for semi-automatic rifles and many brands like Browning, Benelli, Sauer and Voere had issues with it at the beginning.
The first rifle that handled very well that cartridge was the Heckler & Kock SLB 2000. I have got the generation III made by Merkel in Suhl, while before they were made by H&K itself in the city of Obendorf-am-Neckar, and that's a machine. It has never jammed whatever the ammunition used.

Browning actually made some 9.3's too, and the new Win is already there, so no need to do anything.
As far as a real BAR? Well, you can buy new ones for about 6-7K if you want one, but semi auto only and in my state it would be a no-can-do thing, it being what they would call an Assault Rifle, not legal for purchase.

The burning ballot box thing is likely just bored hammerheads looking for trouble, as there is no way to know what ballots are in these drop boxes.

You might want to look at Voere 2185 Semi-Auto 9.3x62. Merkel SR1's are also an option and a little cheaper than the Voere. They are both a bit more expensive than a Browning BAR. Guns International currently has each of them listed currently.

Would make a heck of a driven game rifle.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
