Will reloading disapear with the new too lazy to do it generation

Sorry but did you say you had free rcbs and Lee dies?????
@Rez Exelon
I was wondering the same thing
I he thinks he can't even give them away post them here and see how long they last.
I bet they will be snapped up like a chip by a seagull

I haven't gone into a store to buy underwear, much less reloading supplies, in years. I buy everything online. Stores are going to stock what sells to walk in customers.

It seems that there has been an increase in the number of different competitive shooting sports over the last years. F class, PRS, 3 gun. 20 years ago, I had never heard of any of those things. That might result in new reloaders.

I would be curious what Redding and Hornady would have to say on their business volume and what they are seeing. UPS still pulls up to my house with disturbing frequency.

I do agree that the quality of loaded ammo has gotten better. The accuracy of rifles you can just buy has gotten better as well. Better rifles shooting better ammo resulting in better accuracy certainly reduces the incentive to reload.

I still roll my own. Same reason I wont shoot a rented rifle. For the volume we shoot out of a big bore, likely hard to justify the economics, but the satisfaction of pulling the trigger on your own is why I reload.
It amazes me people still try to go to the store to buy shit, when you can find everything online. If you can’t find it online 99% of the time it’s not going to be at a store either.

I agree with you! About the only components that I buy in a store is powder and primers. And the main reason I reload for my.rifles is that it is more satisfying to take an animal with a load that you developed and built yourself.

Alaska you cant have ammo primers or powder sent to you and there are online stores that will not ship to Alaska anything .Copper just went way up and bullets have too .I just have not even seen kids buy reloading stuff at big stores almost always guys over 50 .I watch at bass pro here which is about the biggest selection left for reloading .There are very few stores that sell any reloading stuff .I have taken tons of kids hunting and fishing but none even asked but one about reloading . Here also muzzleloading is disapearing kids just dont do it .

I’m glad I can have things shipped. There isn’t a store with reloading components within 45 minutes of my house and even then it is a very limited selection. So limited to not be worth my time even going out there to check.

Arctic Ammo in Wasilla has everything needed for reloading equipment and consumables for most common calibers, and Snowhawk Distributors in Eagle River has a bunch of primers and powder. Bass Pro, Cabelas, and Sportsmans have very little. What the big three do get in, don't stay on the shelf, because hoarding is a thing here nowdays. I'd agree muzzleloading up here is pretty dead. Even the ranges don't do muzzleloader shoots anymore, because nobody goes.

Well, I’ll throw in that if someone has 25-20 single shot ( NOT 25-20 Winchester) FLS die that they don’t want…… :)

@Grumpy gumpy
Sorry mate I have 25-20WCF dies heaps of brass and 86 gn cast bullets even got hold of some 25 cal 60gn flat point soft nose for it.

I guess it depends on what this generation is shooting. Many in my area shoot 9mm and 5.56. With ammo prices coming down, no, I don't see them reloading. However, as I am exposing more of my younger neighbors to hunting and long range shooting they are hanging around my reloading bench more and more, bringing brass and bullets for me to reload (they pay for it), and often times wanting to do it them selves. Maybe there's hope...

I didn’t get into reloading till I was in my 60’s. Bought used equipment from a guy who was getting out of it. I don’t really know if I’m saving money by reloading, but that’s not why I do it. It’s all about accuracy, and this brings a whole new dimension to shooting. I enjoy working up loads as much as I enjoy shooting them and there’s nothing more satisfying than getting a nice tight group with your own hand loads.

Rolling an animal with a load that you've worked up with a bullet that you've chosen for the terminal ballistics you want is pretty cool too!

Sometimes I wonder if I shoot just so I can handload.

Just justifying the chosen hobby.
Gotta keep the ammo fresh.
A whole new meaning to: Practice, Practice, Practice, and more Practice.

Now that the rifling is wore out, guess it's time to send the the firearm off for some wanted upgrades and custom work.

I started reloading before I started hunting, to date I have only hunted and taken all of my big game animals with handloads i made. I want to see if I can sustain this for life.
It has created a sickness that I now buy rifles just to reload for a new project some winters.
I guess it could be worse!

Funny you say that as I’ve shot my .44 enough in the last year, I’m considering buying a spare. I only shoot cast bullets ( I cast them) and mostly a modest 1050fps load, so it should last a long time. But I don’t want to be without it while under repair.
Oh well, it’s better than drugs.

240g SWC Keith bullets at that velocity with unique are a dream to shoot. But only 1 spare!!! I definitely have a problem if that’s the norm haha

One identical spare! I love the 4” N frames and need another. Sure my 6” N frames and single actions would do in a pinch, but the 4” guns are special. The plan is to buy one, test it out few hundred rounds then throw it to back of the safe for an emergency.
There is something magical about that load. Mine uses the RCBS version of the Keith bullet weighing 261 grains with wheel weights, and 10 grains of BE-86.

I know the feeling, I think I have 3-4? 4” models. My favorite though is my blued model 29 4” and elk horn grips. Man I love the old stuff.
Like John Taffin would say,the Perfect Packing Pistol search never ends !

My 30 year-old son inherited grandpas setup and now reloads .25-06 and .44 Mag. I imagine he'll stick with it. It's a niche hobby anyhow. I really hasn't ever been all that big.

LOL....know what you mean not having your favorite caliber on hand.

In my preferred calibers:

4 - 30-06
2 - 44 magnum handguns
3 - 22 rifles
2 - 22 handguns
2 - 458WMs
4 - 12 gauge shotguns
2 - 50 cal BP rifles

I think I'm covered if one needs to go in for repair.

For those firearm calibers I only have 1 firearm, should any of them need to go in for repair; I can easily go next caliber up or next caliber down and still be a happy hunter or have a good day at the range.

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
