Treasury Secretary’s wife has words for her husband’s boss, Pres. Trump
Louise Linton, the wife of current Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, is calling out the Trump administration. She recently learned news of a trophy hunter who was allowed to import a lion’s head into the country. This kind of practice was banned by the Obama administration. However, that policy has been reversed by the Trump administration.

Linton, a Scottish actress and the wife of current Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, voiced her displeasure over news of a trophy hunter who was allowed to import a lion’s head into the country — the first instance of such an import since the Trump administration reversed an Obama-era policy that banned trophy hunters from doing just that.

Linton stated, “Americans should not be permitted to kill exotic animals for fun!”

“The Trump administration has authorized a U.S. hunter to import a lion trophy from Tanzania — the first allowed from that country since lions were given protection under the U.S. Endangered Species Act in January 2016,” reads a passage from the press release that Linton shared on Instagram. “A Florida man received permission to import the lion’s skin, skull, claws and teeth, according to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service records belatedly released under the Freedom of Information Act.”

She then instructed followers to urge Congress to pass the Conserving Ecosystems by Ceasing the Importation of Large Animal Trophies Act, or the CECIL Act (named after the Cecil the Lion, who was killed by an American trophy hunter in 2015), which would restrict the importation of sport-hunting trophies from endangered or potentially endangered species.

This isn’t the first time Linton has voiced her frustrations with the Trump administration’s attitude toward big-game hunting. In June, she told Los Angeles Magazine that she was “very upset” by the administration’s efforts to rewrite federal rules on big-game hunting. She also added that she feels “uncomfortable” having dinner with Donald Trump Jr., who was once photographed holding a severed elephant’s tail during a big-game hunt in 2011.

Trump himself, too, once decreed the hunting of elephants a “horror show” in a 2017 tweet.

Yep.....just what we need. Spouses of govt. officials (who have no real authority) who are actors or actresses (and work in a make believe, fantasy land) making govt. policies. Tell me how this isn't going to end badly...............:rolleyes:

Yep. Like actors and actresses speaking as if they know something. Most of them are clueless unless it’s in some script.

    1. Silence is deemed approval. You may think that staying silent keeps you from being involved in any conflict, but quite the opposite. Silence is as much an active form of communication as talking. Anytime you are involved in a situation, people are aware of all the input and lack of it. If you disapprove and don't say anything it will not make you seem easy going. If the problem persists and you did nothing people may consider it as enabling and think the issue is as much your fault as the person who actually caused the problem. You may destroy trust and create resentment. People rarely thank you for withholding information down the line.

    2. The greater good should be the priority. I like to believe most people are good hearted by nature. And many stay silent because they don't want to do any harm by offending or criticizing someone. But when a person or the team is headed down a dangerous path it's selfish to put your own need to be comfortable above the needs of the others. Worse, by staying silent, you may be harming the very people you hope to help. The worst case scenario if you speak up is that someone may disagree, but at least the issue is at the forefront and an active decision can be made. The best case scenario is that everyone benefits and you are hailed as a powerful leader.

    3. Demonstrate you are invested. Why are you in the conversation in the first place? Someone invited you into the dynamic. If you truly don't have a stake then find a better use of your time. But if you are there for a reason you need to show your commitment to the process and the people involved by being active and vocal. Speaking up is an important form of honesty. Honesty actually builds trust, especially when combined with tact and empathy. Demonstrate that you will be truthful with people, that you care about them, and that you give good advice, and you will never lack for trusting friends and followers.

    4. No one else may know. You can't assume the obvious is obvious. Your experience and knowledge has value in a given situation. No one else has your unique perspective. That doesn't mean that everything in your brain is worth communicating, but with a little discretion and thought, you should be able to bring value in most situations. And your piece of the puzzle may be the most important finisher. You're also not doing yourself any favors by not sharing your expertise. People don't automatically recognize your skills, values, ambitions, and desires when you are quiet. If you wait around for people to notice or read your mind, you will likely end up on many paths that are not of your own choosing. You may end up with projects you don't want, missing promotions you do, or accepting tasks you don't have time or ability to complete. Gather up your confidence and share.

    5. You may not be alone in your thinking. It's entirely possible that your insightful observations and conclusions have surfaced in the minds of others. Others may share your thoughts and opinions, but may be also unwilling to speak up. By speaking your mind you encourage them to voice their opinions as well. If everyone holds back, the bus may silently head over a cliff. In my organization we believe so strongly that everything should be voiced in some manner that we have a core value of Bring It Up. We would sooner celebrate somebody saying something irrelevant and unimportant than lose ground or have massive failure due to group silence.

Truer words were never said…took me many long years and two deployments to learn that lesson…If It’s not trying to kill you it’s not your problem…Now 98% of what comes out of Washington has zero impact on my ability to enjoy my life..nothing but white noise that I ignore

Well stated and so relevent. However, one must be sure of the facts before one opens the mouth. People like Ms Linton only cause trouble spouting fake news. As my Dad used to say,"Keep your mouth shut and no one will know you're a damn fool."

Unless I am missing something, I believe that your post IvW is an integral copy/paste of Kevin Daum's February 2014 article "5 Reasons You Should Speak Up (Even When You Think You Shouldn't)" (https://www.inc.com/kevin-daum/5-reasons-you-should-speak-up-even-when-you-think-you-shouldnt.html).

FYI, it is customary in the US to credit the author when one copies his work...

Being Scottish perhaps she thinks like Carrie Symonds (British PM's squeeze) and believes the unelected wives/spouses/girl-friends should be dictating policy.

Along this line, Congress often invites actors and other personalities to "Testify". Testify to what? To what?? A rich pampered snowflake that lives in a world of make-believe being called in to "enlighten" congress? Talk about blind leading blind. When Oprah and Robin Roberts filmed their famous explore America trip together, neither of them knew how to put gasoline in their car. No shxt! Couldn't gas their own car, but have testified to Congress. I hear Ms Linton bakes a great cookie. Do what you know sugar....FWB

"(uncountable) The painstaking process of removing nits (lice eggs) from someone's hair. (figuratively, by extension) A process of finding or pointing out tiny details or errors, particularly if the pointed-out details seem insignificant or irrelevant to all but the finder."

They are invited in order to provide self-affirmation to the Congressmen who already hold identical beliefs, and in an attempt to persuade a public which identifies with the actors' on-screen persona. Some hold political views supporting ours, others do not. At its core however, they make their livings dressing-up and play-acting -- something most of us ceased doing long ago. I believe that the young people refer to them as "influencers" but it has been ongoing since the days when the Athenians were a political and military powerhouse.
