Hunting reports
Africa
1
Is anyone headed over Bowhunting this year? Things are still looking a bit wet and green in South Africa these days, but the dry season should be starting soon. So when and where might you be hunting this year? We are headed over in July.

Over the counter elk in Utah. always wanted to do Africa with a bow but more towards September-good luck on your upcoming trip!

Bow hunting elk out west in September. Drop camp
Always wanted to do a drop camp. Always went DIY or full service. Was always scared about getting poor area. Hope your’s is stellar. Look forward to a good report

I have a long history with the outfitter and the area. It’s the best of both worlds. Being packed far enough in to eliminate the crowds. Hunting out of a canvas wall tent. It’s a lot of work though. Filtering water. Cooking food. And long hours hunting.

Trying to it out before this deer season. I’ve used recurve before which I find natural to shoot, but never had any success hunting with it. This year I have a compound which getting set up correctly feels like rocket science

Perfect

Did my first trip to South Africa last September after decades of dreaming about it. Plotting and planning another trip this September again, talking to a couple of outfits now…nothing concrete yet….still a maybe. But can’t stop thinking about it! Looking forward to reading about your trip later!

The fever does not get better. Everytime you go the will to return gets stronger. Hope you get to go this september.

Thank you. This should be a great trip. we are really looking forward to the side trip down south with Reon. Of course he had to send me pics of a monster Vaal in the hills.

My daughter and I are headed back in July. She is after a Kudu and a Bushbuck. She killed an Eland and Nyala last time so that will get her 4 spiral horns. I’m after Buffalo and anything else that excites me. We will be in Limpopo for 10 days.

I am sure you will both have a fantastic time! I hope she gets a chance at a Bushbuck, I think that is the best trophy in South Africa. Who are you going with? we will be there in July also.

bushbuck with a bow is a real challenge
hope she gets it done

We are hunting with Ryno Smith with Wild Game Safaris. We hunted with them back in 2024 and had a blast. We rebooked about the third day of the hunt last time. We are going to hunt 10 days this time. We will leave Atlanta on July 13th.

Here is the report from our last trip.

Ryno Smit, I have heard of him. At first when you said Ryno Smith I thought you were going with Dries as he has a PH named Ryno Smith. Thank you for posting the link to your last safari, that was an enjoyable read and I love to see Daughters shooting their bows! I hope you both have a great time!

Haven't hunted anything with my bow since 2024.
For this year's annual venison hunt, I'm leaving the rifles at home.
Hoping for a gemsbok and a springbok or two.

I am hoping for a springbok or two this year also. It;s amazing the smaller they are the bigger troph'y they are with a bow.

Nice Report! Im about to pull the trigger on booking the LDE with Patrick. I have been talking about it with him for about 3 yrs now. Romain hit me up the other day with an offer I can't refuse for 2027.

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?
