Who’s going to Hunt Africa this year?

Scheduled to depart March 18 SLC to JNB for 14 days. Unless we are forced to cancel we will be wheels up. Only thing we are trying to figure out now is the requirement to be tested before entering back into the USA. I am hopeful that will change before the trip but that is unlikely. Anyone have any suggestions for getting tested in SA so we are allowed back into the US?
Your outfitter will figure this out if it’s actually required.

Postponed 21 days from 2020 is now scheduled 19 June-12 July followed by 12 days of touring SA, (Kruger, shark dive, penguins, wine and horse ridding) important to my sisters who are accompanying me. Not sure at moment what's going on, somewhat silence from outfitter, worrying to say least, he has large deposit. I am not even sure if we can leave Canada, flights, gun paperwork, vaccine requirement or negative test prior to entry in SA are all what ifs and not really available or organised at this time. Must say all other safaris were far more planned well in advance with every small detail organized. This one seams somewhat on the fly and messed up with Covid rules, requirements and crap changing daily.

As soon as outfitter emails and confirms his end is planned, I will start Canadian end. Only 5 months to plan, maybe all will smooth out soon??. I need to feel, smell and immerse in Africa, been too long.

21 day epic adventure planned and booked for June this year!

10 days in South Africa trying to bag another cat (Serval) as well as some plains game I haven‘t hunted.

Fly up to Zim and fish for Tigers with Wayne and his wife of @Nyamazana Safaris. Six nights cruising 210Km on the Zambezi with River God Adventures! Check it out https://rivergodadventures.com/

Cap off the year with a trip to Spain in December chasing Ibex, Stag, Boar, Mouflon, great Spanish wines and sightseeing in Madrid!
We love hunting and playing tourist in Spain. April of next year will be our third trip.

I have a contract signed, since january 2020, safari postponed till covid is gone. Hoping for Namibia this year.

I am not worried, but wife is. And I am not willing to do the 10 day quarantine when returning home.
If I can get vaccinated in time - I am off!

We booked our June KwaZulu-Natal Cape Buffalo hunt with Ken Moody Safaris in 2019 before the shit hit the fan. Booked our flight with Travel Express in Nov. Wife got her COVID Vaccination at work with an international CDC card. Scheduling my COVID Vaccination with the VA for March....So far all systems are a Go for Launch

RSA in May with the wife for vacation, Botswana in June with daughter for bow hunt. That's the plan anyway. Watching the threads closely to see how others are getting in and out until then.

limpopo June 1 and working on Zim late August Got the vaccine, just need to get PCR 72hr or less!

Are you departing June 1? I was scheduled to also depart June 1. But with Monday May 31 being Memorial Day no way to get a 72 hour test i could find before departure, moved my departure to May 28th. Added 4 more hunting days to trip, darn the luck

Our 2020 trip was postponed to June of 2021 with KMG. I believe our first day hunting is the 8th. Time is sure dragging along slower than I’d like.

Simple question:

With the COVID-19 pandemic in full swing and new strains seemingly developing as this is typed...who thinks it’s safe to travel and hunt Africa this year?

I myself am torn between going and staying home and just want to get my fellow hunters opinions.
If the rules and guidelines do not change, I'll be in South-Africa around the 10th of February. I'm burning all the candles I can find, keeping my fingers crossed permanently.

Right now in the last few weeks before departure, the PH is giving us constant updates. We are in Eastern Cape region, and they seem to have the best figures on Covid for the time being.

Biggest fear is the departure country (Belgium) changing the rules on international travel...

Hi Mark. Can you please explain the testing issue in more detail? Did you have problems finding somewhere to take a test on the weekend?

SA in March, depending on if the flight takes off. Otherwise look to push back to June.

Yes, that is correct. I could not find a place that would be open on Saturday to do the test as that is Memorial Day weekend. Everything I could find, even with mail in test to Covid Consultants will be closed. I was scheduled to depart Tuesday June 1, nothing I could find open within reasonable driving distance that would do it and guarantee the results being a holiday weekend. Travel Express was handling my flights and Jennifer got tickets switched to Friday May 28 departure for a minimal cost. This way I get 25 hunting days instead of 21, can’t really say I don’t mind that.

Yes realize its a memorial holiday but both of us are surgeons/trauma specialists so PCR testing is available in both of our hospitals! Big concern is testing coming back as this am the CDC is mandating
all travelers returning or coming to the US be tested 24hr prior to return! This will be a big deal!
