Depends on the distance at which it is regulated really from what I know but I am sure the more qualified folks will be around soon to give you a more scientific answer for doubles.
What about sights...scoped, v-notch, peep/ghost ring?
Makes a huge difference.
What are you shooting...paper or animals?
I can effectively hit paper at distances I wouldn't shoot animals.
What bullet and load are you going to use?
Trajectory and speed are gonna be a factor.
What are your skills and how much do you practice?
There are guys who can nail it at 1000+ yards & open sights on paper.
But that's only because they practice and know their rifle.
For Elk sized game, using appropriate bullets...I'd say max of 350 yards.
Id just consider shooting it at specific ranges and making my own decision based on that and that alone..In my case it would be 250 to 300 yards with an 06 that was accurate an using 200 gr. accubonds.
You are going to have to take it to a range and find out, no other answer IMO...200-250 yards shouldn’t be an issue but a lot depends on regulation, barrel length, the rifle make‘s inherent accuracy, optics, etc.
