What four calibres would you choose

What makes you want 2 big bores? I mean I want a dozen big bores, but within the limited hypothetical? What does one do the other can’t and what animals would you use each for?
@Rifleman97 this is all based around buffalo and plains game of any size, so that adds a bit of context. The objective is the best first shot I can possibly make. There are two possibilities I see arising: the first shot on the relaxed buffalo either close in, say lass than 40 metres where a shot with the 470 double would be fine. I would like to use the double on buff as a matter of course. The second is when the buff is further out and the 500J Blaser with an RD20 would be better. I was going to put a DG scope on it, but I am just s bit concerned about a half moon.

I love Mannlichers too. I was about to get a new SM12 but I’m not thrilled about the sensor they added. Love the two I currently own.
As for four cartridges: 22lr..223,30-06,404 Jeffrey, gotta have a 12 gauge so I gotta make it five or do without the Jeffrey.
Madness that Steyr don’t produce a 7x57 these days!

In new rifles, the 7x57 is dead around the globe....
But there are a lot of beautiful use ones in the market.
Just pic a Mannlicher, Mauser or Brno.... or a Ruger RSI!!!

Having endured a few serious shortages of ammo and reloading components, brass and ammo availability are my paramount consideration, which certainly drives this analysis.

5.56/.223 - there will always be ammo of some sort

.308 Win - same, ammo and brass are abundant and this round is like a 1/2 ton pickup, handy for lots of things

.338 Lapua - when more muscle or a longer reach is needed. High quality ammo and brass generally is available. It matches .375 H&H velocitiy and energy with the same weight bullets, but better ballistics

12 gauge - because a shotgun is a necessary tool for bird hunting and home defense and again, ammo is widely available

It is looking very likely that by the end of the week, there will be a limit for five firearms per person in Tasmania, unless you are farmer or accredited sporting shooter and you would be limited 10 firearms per person.

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.

Good morning from Montana.

I'm looking at a post from 2018 where you were looking for a lefty Winchester in .375 H&H Magnum. I'm selling mine. My email is [redacted] in the event that you're still searching for a unicorn.

Best,

Kelly Palmer
