What do you think of the Winchester .405?

My gunsmith friend has an 1895 in 405 that has taken an asiatic buffalo and a wild scrub bull (imagine a slightly smaller cape buff with anger management issues) each with one shot, the scrubber ran for a bit before it realised it was actually dead. Lovely wood on it and the blueing is still pretty fair
gumpy

I have limited (very limited) experience in shooting heavy, dangerous game.
That said, I would choose a more traditional dangerous game cartridge for heavy dangerous game.

After all that, I think a .405 with blunt shaped 300 gr soft point bullets would be a fun rifle to hunt non-dangerous game with, in thick foliage, such as the riverine forest conditions of Limpopo District, South Africa, up to and including eland, would be a real peach.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
