The classic 38-44 loads are Keith’s load with his Lyman 358429 over 13 grains of 2400.Question for those loading 38 Spl in 357mag guns. I'm wondering what loads in 38 Spl brass would generate the same pressure as a 357. The reason is I have a 357 revolver and a LOT of 38 Spl brass. All the loads I see for 38 Spl brass is built for 38 Spl revolvers and is well short of what a 357 Mag revolver will handle. the 38 Spl loaded to 357 pressures would be short of 357 Mag loads but more than what I see for 38 Spl+P.
I just thought I'd try to shoot something a little softer in my favorite pistol. There are a couple indoor ranges I go to that dont allow "magnum" loads. I've picked up some 170 gr TC. I dont know why I didnt consider just "downloading" the magnum cases.@cwickgo9 what speed are looking for out of the 41 Special? I’ve never messed with the short cases but just download the mags.
I am loading some 41 magnums as we speak.
A 225 Keith (H&G 258 clone) over 9.5 grains of Longshot. This load gives me 1100 FPS on average. It’s my favorite 41 load.
I also load 7.3 grains of W231 for 910 FPS.
I was going to load some 416Rem light practice loads to break in a new rifle, but I'm concerned this lot of brass I have is rotten. Looks like some moisture may have gotten to it inside and out. I sized a couple dozen cases and decided to stop. Is it worth the risk or should I scrap the whole lot?

Don't have a wet tumbler, but I have heard of the paperclip test. I can SEE depth on the outside of some of the cases if I zoom in on pictures I've taken. I'll probably keep some and toss some.If you by chance have a wet tumbler with stainless pins, I'd run it in there for 30 mins and see how it cleans up. Otherwise... if you've ever seen an internal stretch/separation check tool made out of a paper clip, see if the internals will catch when you drag the tip across.
Picture a paperclip unwound, the very last 3-4mm of one end bent at 90 deg. Stick it inside and drag up to the mouth of the cartridge. Like feeling for cracks with your fingernail.
If you feel depth of the corrosion, I'd toss the brass.
