What cartridge would you choose for hunting Bull Moose in Canada?

The 9.3X57 were used in the Husqvarna; if anyone is interested in one, Sarco Inc just posted some for sale.

Thx for the heads up. My one Husky is a fine classic rifle and having one in the 9.3x57 is highly desirable. But, for my Moose hunt, I already have too many options to choose from and am not looking to add more. I agree that a 30-06 is adequate but since we will be far enough West and North to possibly encounter brown bears, I am looking to carry a heavier option. Just because. The 338wm is currently the lead choice but my 7mm Mag is still under consideration. Barnes TTSX looking to be the ammo of choice for several reasons. All of them can do the job.

I have only hunted with a 338 once and it was the shorter, slightly slower 338 RCM and it was devastating. The 338wm has more bullet options available in factory loads and is a bit faster. The Barnes load being hotter is almost 200fps faster and more accurate. That is why I am looking to it for this hunt. I will look into the 9.3x57 for possible use in Africa later.

I prefer large entrance and exit holes. I would use either a 35 Whelen or my 9.3x62.

Moose arent as tough as deer once theyre hit. My sister shot a cow this year at 75 yards in Alberta with a youth model 30-30. Dropped on the spot and one more shot to finish her off up close.

I’ve shot my share and guided many many more. Take your 30/06 180 grain and enjoy yourself. If you want more and have a 300 magnum use it. Have fun
