Over the years, I couldn't justify buying rifles worth more than my home. So I tried to go in with fair priced decent reviews. Out of interest, I would like peoples' thoughts on my rifles. Nothing fancy, but wanted to sense check.

  1. Old Remington Scremaster .22
  2. Savage Axis .223
  3. Mossberg Patriot 270 win
  4. Ruger MK77 30-06
  5. Zasatava 375 H&H

Let's hear it. I'm not too sensitive so say it like it is lol

The Zastavas I've used have functioned well and been accurate.

No complaints about my Ruger 77 in .300 Win Mag.

I can't speak to the others, don't have any expeience with them.

A Zastava is a modern Mauser action. What can possibly go wrong with it ? The Ruger is pretty similar. I can’t comment on the others.

Have had terrible luck with Mossbergs. I no longer consider them.

Honestly you’re fine across the board especially the m77. You can do a lot with a m77 in .30-06. As long as they all function and meet your accuracy standards then who cares what we we all think. Only one that catches my eye is the mossberg. Always heard they were rough but I have no personal experience with them.

I’m a bougie rifle snob. I like nice rifles. But I also like a bargain and hunting money so I spend mine wisely. If you’re happy with your rifles then keep rocking what works. If your looking for justification to buy a new rifle then you came to the right group of enablers.

Maybe thats exactly what I need. Bad influence to spend tons more money on rifles that ill hardly use rofl

The Savage and Mossberg are decent serviceable rifles.

Both were designed to be simple to manufacture at a low cost, but will give decent accuracy. They aren't well liked by some because they look like tools, which is exactly what they are. (y)

Best to spend money on hunting adventures rather than a safe full of showy rifles you never use.

They'll all work, especially if you handload or find the right factory ammo.

I have a LH Zastava in 9.3x62. Fit and finish leave a bit to be desired. Like CZ, they need some gunsmith-supplied TLC.

They also don't use great quality wood - Turkish walnut, I believe. Wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the stock. My OEM one cracked right in front of the trigger, ended up replacing it with a Boyd's.

I'd use rifles 4 & 5 the rest I would pass on. It's all about whatever you feel you need to get the job done. There are many on here that spend more than some could ever imagine on hardware for hunting, others that keep it very sensible and conservative from a cost standpoint. I think where the rubber meets the road is a dangerous game rifle.....after all, in real life you don't look for the cheapest heart surgeon and we all know with some certainty that you get what you pay for.

A 15,000.00 .375H&H won't kill a buffalo any quicker than a 1200.00 .375HH&H. Enjoy your rifles, spend whatever money you may consider spending on a higher price gun on taking a hunt somewhere, create new memories!

Over the past 50 years, I have bought and sold many hunting rifles, above all serial ones. Everything that had a certain traditional value or was somewhat expensive custom builds, I still own.

Certainly, cheap rifles kill game just as well as expensive ones, as long as they shoot accurately, which was not always the case with serial rifles, and sometimes still is not. A very nice traditional a little more expensive hunting rifle, that one likes to own, always shoots well and kill the game better. Is generally known!

In retrospect, I should have just bought three very expensive hunting rifles right at the beginning. You don't need more for hunting all game worldwide. I did probably still own them, and ultimately, I would not have spent more money, perhaps I might even have saved some.

I mean they will work. If your happy with it is all that matters.
Im not a fan of mossberg because of some shady buisness practices when they came out with the 4x4 rifle.
But thats nothing to do with personal taste.

I prefer classic rifles and would rather soend some $$ on fewer rifles that are more $$$
But everyones personel view price to value intersect at different points.

Thebmenories you make with your rifle are worth more than any rifle

If they all shoot straight, it looks like you have the plains game and varmints in RSA covered.

I'm not familiar with your Remington 22. Is it the Scoremaster? Nothing wrong with owning an early Remington.

The Axis?...the Savages that I owned and like are the 110 series.

My Mossberg Patriot 30-06, first run, has been to Africa on 3 of 4 trips and has taken a lot of PG. It's my go to hunting big game rifle for here in the US.

I have the Ruger M77 in 22 Hornet I like it. I used in Africa in 2025 for night critters.

I also have a Zatava and like it.

LOL....The only thing missing is something in .4.
With the right bullet and setup you can hunt everything on earth.

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.
