There is nothing quite like the "Cla clunk" sound of those big cartridges being ejected from a bolt gun:)

There was a video on this site a few years back.

By the way, notice that each cartridge basically penetrates to the same depth? The Brits had a design point to which they adhered, altering diameter to get more punch.

He has another video on the .600 Overkill. What I noticed is that the .600 and the .577 NE penetrated LESS than the others. John Taylor mentioned this WRT the .600 NE but went on to say that it still had more than sufficient penetration for elephant.

So, I called SSK yesterday. It is correct that they will build a 505 on the Ruger RSM, however, he said that he only recomends it as a toy and not a serious hunting rifle. Said that there are feeding and ramp issues that cannot be fully resolved. He said that as a hobby rifle, it would be fine but that he would not recommend it for DG applications. God bless him for being honest.

That's basically what he told me on trying to convert a Winchester 70 in 7mm Rem Mag to 416 Ruger. He said they would have to mark the barrel "single shot only" due to Winchester not making the correct mag box and follower to make it work.

Perhaps keep looking for a gunsmith;)

Mine feeds one hell of a lot better than my CZ 550 in 505 Gibbs does, even after being sent back to Triple River for a rework. They do generally hate nickle plated cases. So stay with bare brass if you can, otherwise get some sandpaper and scuff up the nickle ones a bit.

The biggest things to me are that the magazine only holds 2 down and if you want one up the pipe, plus the two down... You need to chamber one and then stuff the other two in from the bottom and force the floor plate closed. I have very successfully hunted DG with both of my 505's and with the RSM did it with only two in the box as I had to crawl over 100 yards behind my PH so waited until I was about to sit up to chamber a round. Shot two and reloaded pretty quickly and got a 3rd shot off.

The other issue to me is the LOP is a bit short so I have one of those leather laced on recoil pads over the pad it already had. I guess there is a 3rd issue and that is that it is light for caliber. A lot of metal comes out of the barrel to bore it out for a 505;) So for now I simply strapped on one of those butt stock cartridge holders. With it full of those big cartridges, it is a bit butt heavy but reduces felt recoil enough.

A common “problem” is that the magazine well is too narrow for the .505. That’s why nickel plated cases like to jump free (not enough friction to keep them put). The geometry is off. It’s as simple as that.

And the intermediate conclusion is that I'm no closer than I was before....except for having eliminated a few options.

For those of you who know...What does it take, in general, to buy a used CZ? And are they good "working" rifles? I dont require London presentation, but would expect reliability and functionality.

    Thank you, Gentleman

I am guessing you could get into a CZ for 2000-3000 if you can find one, maybe cheaper. It may need some work, you never know. There is a Vektor on GB that looks pretty nice.

That's the route I have decided to take, with regard to a .505, should I ever do one. The action is massive, and inexpensive, and I happen to like the cock-on-closing feature.

Michael, Did you find your 505 Gibbs? If you are still looking, I know where a great working bolt rifle is located for sale. PM me for more information.

That's what it started out as I am the previous owner. If you drop me your contact info, I'm sure I could educate you on what you're getting into with an out of the box CZ. No doubt it will go bang but, I would never hunt dangerous game with it. Todd.
