Want To Buy Polar Bear Hunt Clothing

Do you have experience with hunting Greenland and its temps and appropriate clothing?

I'm wanting to plan a trip there in the Fall of 2027 for Caribou & Muskox.
i guided in fall and winter in northern quebec for caribou and im hunting and ice fishing in winter here in the yukon.

i will say i will have a pretty good idea of what you need in greenland or in general the arctic but fall and winter are not the same at all.

to have an idea for the cold you have to go to a sub freezer and try what you think will work for you and report.

here going on a sled with dogs or skidoo by -40c or f lol is a different world than just walking on the tundra. the wind chill is a killer as well.

The classic old N-3B parka that I wore several times for hunting in the Arctic and other extremely cold regions of the world.

This one is an original from 1964 and still has bear fur lining on the hood.

The N-3B parka is somewhat heavy and not particularly suitable for long walks, which is hardly something you do in winter when hunting in the Arctic. However, it is easy to move and therefore also easy to shoot when you wear that.

very interesting reading. but remember the inuits were re-doing every year the caribou cold weather clothing as it was not able to keep the warmth after a whole winter and the hair loss was pretty important on caribou skin as well ...

depending also on the area the inuits i know here are using seals skin for the parka and polar bear ones for the pants. impossible to beat seal skin for water protections and polar bear is really warm ... i ve tested polar bear mitten and i was impressed. im using myself black bear fur mitten homemade and they are really really warm. by -40c on a skidoo i do not feel the cold. as i said i will post what im using it is a mix of conventionnal and more traditionnal tools to protect against the cold.

that has been a while since i have seens a n3b ... but still using bunny boots from the 60s ...

A traditional reindeer-hide parka from the Evens of northeastern Russia, oblast Magadan, then still part of the Soviet Union. It was a very warm parka, but I only wore it for the photo. I hunted with clothes in part from the Russian army. At the front of me a Laika, nice dogs from this area.

Very nice parka. Before all the recent unpleasantness, it was my dream to hunt brown bears over a pack of Laika in Siberia. Very rugged and independent dogs there in the East.

I’m headed to Canada for polar bear hunt in April. Does anyone have any arctic clothing or boots to lend or for sale or know where I can get some? Some outfitters provide it but mine doesn’t. I’m 6’1” and 185 pounds but bigger is fine too for this hunt due to layering. Thanks for any help or advice!

Also, considering taking either my AHR CZ550 375 H&H Mag or my AHR CZ550 458 Lott. Either will work but what are your opinions? I’m leaning towards the 375. I’ve use the Lott for backing up hunters when guiding brown bear but thought it might be fun this time to go with the 375 instead.
Have hunted Polar bear and it's cold! Would take the 375HH will give you a little more reach. You don't need that power for a PB they are thin skinned (not like a buffalo or hippo). Layers are important go with something heavy for the outside. Kuiu is good for mid-layers but not outer.

got a link? I saw some new ones on ebay and other place wasn't sure if I was looking at Chinese clones/knockoffs
Here is the link to the new Alaska gear co bunny boots.

Big Rays sells Baffin which are also really good boots.

When I was in Greenland hunting last March everything i used was a bit cheaper but worked well. Worst was about 20 below. 100 miles on the snowmobiles round trip the one day. Never really got cold but I did put toe warmers in my boots to be safe.
Baffin boots, refrigiwear bibs, marmot yukon down jacket with lighter layers I got on clearance. I had a sitka Calvin hoodie just in case but didn't use it other than just around camp.

Just to compare typical cold weather boots from Kentrek and other similar brands, these might have 1000 or 1200 g of insulation.

The Bunny boots have over 5000 g. Probably not fun on long hikes, but will keep your feet warm at -40.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
