Want To Buy Polar Bear Hunt Clothing

I am 5 10 and 215 in those pictures Trust me I had multiple layers under that snow suit, the inuit travel fast to cover distance and they don't slow down since you need to get ridges in front of you to be able spot and stalk the musk ox since they are weary and run when something isn't right, only one did they circle their young which means you can't shoot and when they spook you can't shoot either

I really appreciate it but 2XL probably too big for me.
will not be too big ... im using 3xl tall in my clothing for parka and a whole insulated coverall helly hansen im using is in 5xl tall ... you want to be warm when it is cold.

Think of it as an investment.

wool is not the best when it is very cold. think more about wool/merino underneath but not for the outside lawyer you need to protect against wind and snow and of course moisture. i do love my wool clothing but not by -40c.

Makes sense.

I've never hunted -40C but I have hunted caribou from -20f to -40f and have to say my wool worked wonderfully.

White wool lined pack boots were great too.

not starting a war there but look up what the people are using on the pictures when hunting muskox and more rarely polar bear. the only boots i will use are the bunny white ones as even if your feet are wet you just change the socks and you can go on try that with any boots with felt liners. again not a critic just an experience of the way people are doing it. i will post a picture of my gear and maybe you will understand a little more. we are living there and polar bears are almost 800-1000kms farther north ...

I might have a set of Army EWCS. I’ll try to get up into the attic tomorrow and see if the Mitchellin Man suit is in there. Might be a little big, I’m 6’2 and was walking around at about 205 then. Always had to be taped

Do you have experience with hunting Greenland and its temps and appropriate clothing?

I'm wanting to plan a trip there in the Fall of 2027 for Caribou & Muskox.

I like Kuiu Kutana Gale force pants and jacket for the outer layer. Get a. Down jacket for mid layer and you are set. My partner and I used it for ND last month without a mid layer. It is designed for frigid conditions.

-40c is -40f

I’m headed to Canada for polar bear hunt in April. Does anyone have any arctic clothing or boots to lend or for sale or know where I can get some? Some outfitters provide it but mine doesn’t. I’m 6’1” and 185 pounds but bigger is fine too for this hunt due to layering. Thanks for any help or advice!

Also, considering taking either my AHR CZ550 375 H&H Mag or my AHR CZ550 458 Lott. Either will work but what are your opinions? I’m leaning towards the 375. I’ve use the Lott for backing up hunters when guiding brown bear but thought it might be fun this time to go with the 375 instead.
Id ask your outfitter what they recomend.
That said. You can slways get the armies ECWS LEVEL 7 the jacket and bibs can be gotten pretty cheap. Are solid grey good to -40. Ive had a set for over 10 years. It still holding up great.

How cold of weather have you actually used these in? I have no doubt they will keep you warm, but I question any garment with a Goretex-like membrane. A few years ago I wore a Cabelas parka in -10F weather on a Montana elk hunt. The Dry Plus membrane, which is Cabelas version of Goretex, seemed to be very stiff and noisy at the very cold temperatures. Whenever I moved, it sounded like I was wrapped up in a blue plastic tarp. It was incredibly noisy!

I used it below freezing with 50 mph winds the first day. I still felt a tad warm as I was going through brush. Also, read the description and details. It has multiple layers of materials built in. I didn't feel it was noisy, but the wind was pretty noisy in itself.

I will give you my experience at temperatures in the range of -15 to -41. Of the people that went on this hunt including guides helepers and hunters(5) 2 got frostbites including the guides wife and a hunter from Spain. The damage occured from exposed parts of the face and nose that wasn't covered completely. One was severely cold from poor boots. there are no trees, bushes of anything that can be used for starting a fire other than grass which you couldn't get enough to start a heating fire. I used a full fave shield and snow googles incuding a heavy scarf. I also used a pair of US military XXL over gloves mittens on top of the best insulated mittens with a pair of lite gloves under neath. If you look at the picture not only did I have the artic snow suit on I had my series 4 duck hunting jacket on plus military over gloves face shield glasses and believe me if there is a leak in your cover those temperatures will cut into you like a torch, the guy that is facing me is a Spaniard and he was so lightly dressed I can believe he only go extreme cold feet his buddy with his back to me got frost bite on his face, luckily I had a bottle of liquid skin that helped relieve his discomfort along with the facial frost bite on the guides wife. I had a pair of oversized snow boots on 2 sizes larger to accommodate more socks and inserts. I did not like the snowmobile as it was unstable at the speed they would go we flipped over twice so I elected to stay on the dog sled, I was warned to stay clear of the dogs since they are very aggressive and would tear into anyone who didn't feed them. I was told that any dogs that bit a person in greenland would have to be put down immediately so the guides protected them. Our hunts would start with full light and stay out till almost complete darkness but would need to return with decent light due to the rocky terrain, again they would follow previous trails, the water areas had overflow which made them extremely cautious considering the ice was 4 feet thick by the cabins. The guides wife spoke english and she said they finally bought an ice auger this past year for getting water There was very little snow cover but crevasses could hold deep snow and cause the flips on ATV and snow machines. Boulder everywhere which became useful in stalks. I stayed fairly warm through out the trip except when I sat out some of the stalks of the other hunters which sometimes took an hour or more. When I did the stalk on my oxen I was stripping clothing to keep the heat down, The other hunter where extreme gentlemen 2 from Spain and 2 fro Slovenia in that they stated the oldest should go first so lucky me age finally helped
Again know your capabilities spent the money on the best equipment listen to those who have gone before you. I used a 300Wm 180grain and used a guide provided rifle since it was a hassle to get a gun through Demark plus extra charges for each flight which was 4

I read the description and saw Torain membrane. Sounds like another version of Goretex. I’m thinking hunting at -10F is different than hunting at 20F or 30F. And -40F is altogether something else. You know your KUIU garments are good below freezing. But until you actually use them subzero, you don’t really know what you have. I had used my Cabelas parka only a few times because it was too warm and bulky for most of my hunting. When I finally used it in-10F conditions, on a crisp still morning, I couldn’t believe how noisy it was. Different materials act differently at different temperatures. YMMV.

@Scott CWO are you doing anything special to prepare your rifle for extreme cold? I have read articles recommending cleaning all oil lubricants from the firing pin and using graphite in place of oil.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
