Value of Ruger M77 Magnum (.458 Lott)

My memory was faulty on what I paid for my .458 Lott RSM, a 2006 model that I found at Cabela's in early 2024. The $1,800 number was more an idea of what I might have paid, in my mind now.
Here is why I took it home in 2024: $1,399.99:

Cabela's tag is wrong on barrel length. It is 23" not 22".
Muzzle diameter is 0.750" at 23" from breech face,
measured from a rod in barrel, action cocked to get firing pin protrusion eliminated.
Those Ruger castings, heat treatings, machinings and hammer forgings are precise.
The one-piece bolt from casting and heat treatment is stronger than any bolt machined from a forging.

I consider that carbon-fiber stock fitting to be an added value of at least $1,000.00.
So I got the RSM barreled action for $399.99.
For $1,399.99, I wood have bought it even if it was still in walnut, what with it being a SAAMI .458 Lott still needing re-throating with a SAAMI .458 WIN MAG reamer. Doing good has no end.

To each their own. To me, a plastic stock on a RSM is not in keeping with an express rifle and at least a $1,000 reduction in value, and that’s only because Numrich had NOS walnut stocks available.

We can all just look at the recent auction results on RIA or similar to determine market value. The market speaks for itself.

318AE is showing his ignorance to call a carbon fiber stock, with perfect bedding and cute paint job,
a "plastic"detractor on an RSM.
The carbon fiber RSM stock I have with recoil plate embedded weighs 1# 15.8 oz.
Remainder of the barreled action weighs 6# 14.4 oz.
Total rifle weight is 8# 14.2 oz, with no ammo or add-ons.
With the perfect Gen-3 .458-caliber barrel and the integral quarter ribs (top and bottom) the rifle balances right in line with where barrel joins action.
A decent scope and 4 rounds of ammo gets it quickly to 10# or more,
and handling like a well-balanced magic wand.

I tried for years to find such a custom re-stocking job for an RSM.
By then, whoever was doing it had quit.
Very grateful I could steal my rifle from Cabela's for $1400.
The red gods smiled upon me that day.
Thank God for the ignorant who want to pay $1000 more for the factory walnut.

Whenever I am want to act prissy and fussy, or simply nostalgia bitten
and not fearing the weather,
I pick one of over a hundred walnut stocked ones.
Oops make that +100-1 in walnut, since I had to replace this one on a CZ 550 Magnum 404 Jeffery:

I chose one of those B&C Kevlar/Aramid and metal endo skeleton/bedding block jobs weighing 2.5 lbs instead of the 3-pounds of "fancy walnut."
