I saw this used ruger #1 with a leupold 1.75-7x in 45-70 last week and decided to buy it on Wednesday. so here it is with my other six rifles in 45-70. I do rather like them. #1 new used ruger #1, # 2 pedersoli sharps 74, #3 marlin 1895, #4 ruger #3, #5 Winchester highwall short rifle, #6 Winchester highwall saddle ring carbine, #7 tc contender rifle barrel.

Nice addition! I’m kinda in the same boat on an abundance of 45/70’s. They are like potato chips, can’t have just one!

You've got it bad, real bad.

Leslie, do you plan on giving each of your grandkids one?:rolleyes: That is how I justify the number of 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mausers in my collection.

well i better get on the stick as I only have seven 45-70,s and 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. if they wanted to hunt or shoot I let them pick what they want to use, but so far all the firearms stay at my house. yes I like the scope, it geathers more light than a 1.5-4 x 20.

. I always loved the Ruger #3

I had one of the Russian double barrel 45-70,s and it drove me nuts trying to get the barrels regulated, it never happened. I did get one barrel to shoot close to point of aim, but the other was off enough to make it a good single shot. under 50 yards you could hit a 8" circle with both barrels.

Rifle was with scope, or just iron sights?

Individal barrels were accurate?

Just the problem to regulate them?

I bought a new one, and I hope to get them shot straight ...

You think, the 400 gr Speer FN is a good starting point?

scope, the left barrel was pretty close, the right was off. both barrels shot decent groups by themselfs for close hunting, but were not together. 8" groups at 50 yards don,t get it with me. I shot 300gr-350gr bullets trying to get 16oo-17oo fps, I have a browning 20 ga o/u that does better than that at 50 yards with slugs just using the bead. if it had done better I would have kept it. good luck with your rifle.

May be, I was a but euphoric..... I am just building a new stock, but have not fired it before.

Until now, it costs me a piece of wood and some hours.

Nevertheless, I am determined, making it a usefull toy.

I had a Valmet 412 double rifle in 45-70 cal The barrels are maked by Finish barrelsmith Erkki Mäkinen. The barrels are regulated for 350gr Hornady bullet for speed about 620 m/s. I shoot couple of mooses with that gun. Mäkinen has also his own caliber 458 Rämsöö that based on russian 7.62x54R case that has opened for .458 bullet
