Shootist43 asked me to find out about the procedures and documents required when a US hunter wants to purchase ammo in SA while on Safari. I have asked a couple of Weapons and ammo dealers as well as a local Outfitter what the requirements and procedures are. 1. You will need to produce your passport 2. You will have to produce your weapon temporary import permit 3. An invitation letter from the Outfitter - not sure if this is a legal requirement. From what I understand is that you will be allow to purchase ammo, and it will be recorded as per normal SA laws. However you will not be allowed to export the ammo. Below is the reply from Safari & Outdoor Operations Executive Mr Hilgard van Niekerk : Subject: RE: US hunters - purchasing of ammo Morning Andre, he can bring his passport and temporary import permit. We will then be able to sell and record in the blue register. If you send me his detail, I can also tell the relevant safe manager at the store to be ready for his visit and make sure we have what he is looking for.
