Many of you will be aware that the UK government has been considering a ban on the import / export of all hunting trophies.
I received an email update yesterday from the British Association of Shooting & Conservation advising that a ban on the export of trophies from the UK was off the agenda. There is a proposal to ban the import of hunting trophies from 'endangered animals'. There is no definition yet of 'endangered', but presumably could well be those species listed in CITES 1 and 2.
There are no guarantees in the UK at the moment; the Prime Minister's fiancée and father are both patrons of an organisation seeking to ban recreational fishing, so Boris Johnson will come under pressure. There are signs, however, than an outright ban will not be introduced.

I'm glad to see there that the trophy import ban has been moderated for now, but Wow, ban recreational fishing?

Good to hear a bit of good news hope they scrape the whole idea in first place, even for endangered species as endangered cannot be hunted without a CITES permit in place anyway and CITES controls the numbers.

I am not from UK, but marginally was following.
I remember there was a public debate, and questionary about public opinion on some of the UK govt web sites.
What is the outcome from that source? anybody knows?

The results from the consultation where not released. It’s seems they are side stepping the release of the consultation and moving forward with legislation to stop imports of “endangered” species. Maybe because the consultation didn’t go the way they thought. As above no one yet knows what this will be. Very doubtful it will be those with a status of endangered or greater by iunc. More likely like the op says it will be those on cites appendix 1,2 & 3. It’s all a big political move to appease voters and the anti hunting community are jumping on the current climate change popularity train to get additional support. The appetite to stop shooting & hunting in the U.K. is huge and trophy imports are the tip of the spear for them.

@Donnachaidh
It's good to see some commonsense prevailing. As for banning fishing what planet are the from. It sure isn't one that has intelligence.

Pity they couldn't include socialist governments on the endangered species list. Look what they did with traditional fox hunting. Give the greens a blade of grass and they will take a paddock. However I digress

@Cervus elaphus

I think it is more appropriate to put them on the invasive & destructive species list...

UK hunters should also be aware that Eduardo Goncalves is releasing a new book featuring British hunters and he is using this site to gather information.
He then provides details to the anti hunting press (read gossip rags) who, in turn trawl these pages and provide misinformation to their readers to generate more anti hunting sentiment.

Hunters provide game management, waterfowl habitat enhancement, which has a positive spinoff for both hunters and game, I've worked on several of these projects including cleaning overgrown streams for trout. When the anti-hunting brigade tried to disrupt a Canada goose cull (while moulting and flightless, where they were humanely dispatched and the birds distributed to old folks homes), A friend filmed them from a nearby hill and boy did they get upset about that !. I can't find it on youboob so don't know if it's still around.
