Bulletin:
This is an urgent information for the NAPHA members from European taxidermists and trophy shipping agencies, based on the European veterinary laws:
For many years, salted skins and capes from Namibia were of the highest quality in Africa, but recently a few capes had been ruined by an unnecessary additional treatment.
To avoid problems with your clients it is important for you to know:
The shipping to Europe must be done by a TRACES licensed person ( this can be a shipping agency, a taxidermist or anybody else who reaches reasonable standards).
European veterinary laws require that the skulls are clean and treated with hydrogen peroxide. Skins and capes must be salted and dried.
Use plain salt with NO additives. Do NOT use additional chemicals. Do NOT use bacteriocides. NEVER resoak any skin or cape.
Any of these additional treatments may cause the skin or cape to be ruined.
Please keep in mind that you, as outfitter, are responsible should a trophy be ruined by an unnecessary treatment.
You will easily find a TRACES licensed Namibian company who guarantees you an export without unnecessary treatment. This means: less work, less costs and a happy client.
This information is based on a convention of European taxidermists and trophy shipping agents held at the Dortmund hunting show "Jagd und Hund" in February 2016.
