Sorry buddy I realized I forgot to put that in. It is updated with pricing info now. Thanks for catching that.

Do they crossbreed with the wild hogs? Here by us they do producing a thing called an Iron pig which is awesome eating...

Great looking Boars.

Nossir, these hunts are conducted on the portion of the ranch that is the high fenced preserve. They cannot get to each other to cross breed.

Cool, I saw the pics show true breed but as you mentioned wild hogs I was curious as the crossbreeds are great eating...looks like you run a good outfit and very good taxidermy to boot.

Always enjoy your posts

@IvW thank you very much. I hope we get the opportunity to sit around a fire, drink a beer, and tell lies one day.

Shout out to Mark for taking this pic at the ranch last time he was down. Thank you buddy.

Looks like a fun hunt at a good price. Do you still do any guiding, Erik or is taxidermy keeping you too busy to get out there? Thanks for posting........FWB

Hey Bill, I don’t guide very often anymore. Most of my days are in the studio mounting animals and running the businesses. Justin and Billy do the vast majority of the guiding. Every now and then when I can I still like to slip down and get my hands dirty.

Considering proper bullet placement, what would you recommend for cartridges and energy minimum for an ethical hunt, what ranges can be expected?

Really, any thing 270 with a heavy for caliber premium bullet will work assuming shot placement is good. 30 caliber in rounds such as 30-30, 30-06, and 300 WM are preferred. Ranges are all up to how the hunter prefers to hunt. Shots of 200 yards and in are common. I personally enjoy using my 93x74r double at close distances of 50 yards maximum, often inside 20 yards is what I like. That being said the big boars are very territorial and it's not for the faint of heart doing it that way. Most of our hunters have enjoyed that style of a spot and stalk and getting in very close. the boars will typically turn once you are in their space and hold their ground. They will usually click their teeth and grunt before they charge but not always. I've had them just wheel and come with no warning before also. There is a funny story where a boar ran one of my employees up on top of a side by side and wouldnt let him down. A short rock fight ensued where an old brick which happened to be in the bed of the Can-Am was used to good effect by clobbering the boar in the head with it buying Justin enough time to make an escape.

Thanks Gizmo, what I had in mind was a Ruger 1 in 45-70, 300 gr Swift A Frames. I ve taken a black bear, a moose and several deer with it so I suspect that it should be adequate. The only real big issue is covid vax status as I am one of the unvaxxed heathens that the US govt still turns back at the border. C'est la vie. But you have sure peeked my interest.

Oh ya, that #1 would be perfect for the job! Tell the customs guy to piss off, you're going to Texas which is the land of the unvax'ed

One of the last times I visited Montana, pre covid, the border security officer really pissed me off and when he asked me why I was travelling to the US, business or pleasure. I told him that it was no business of his, "None of yours". He got real testy after that until I asked him "Where do I turn around so I can go back home," in an angry voice". He then lightened up.
