This is a South African publication. In the past I had read some good articles by it. This person seems very qualified but her information seems contrary to a lot of stuff I have read. I will be interested to see if someone refutes it. Interesting side note that she is a consultant to Angola.

Back trophy hunting ban with a global fund for people living with wildlife

The issue of trophy hunting is highly emotive, and the UK government plans to ban the import of trophies. But if it goes ahead, it must look at establishing a global conservation fund to help indigenous communities conserve the wildlife with which they live.

Without even opening the article to read it, I cynically read the opening as “ban trophy hunting…but make sure you replacement all the revenue the local communities lost with your tax dollars as a handout.”

Like I said, maybe I’m just too cynical and burnt out on political bait and switch.

I am not sure what to think about the article. I think her argument is that you can't ban hunting unless there is a fund set up to replace the income to communities. But I don't see how that would help wildlife. I think it would just.lead to habitat loss.

maybe I’m just too cynical

After watching both parties over the past 11+ years and just recently over the COVID B.S vote for and pass obviously Unconstitutional Laws and executive orders.Knowing full well it will be years before they loose in court, if they don't win outright? If here in the USofA government shows no restraint in violating the most basic of civil rights what obligation would any government show towards helping indigenous communities with anything? Oh sure we sent millions of expired COVID vaccines... If they send anything corrupt govt. officials take every penny. Our guides trackers skinners and cooks will be unemployed.
