The Ultimate Tiger Fishing Fly Rod Package (Works For Salmon & Steelhead Too)

Man I just dumped a small fortune into a new 5wt outfit or I'd seriously look at this. It's a outstanding outfit at a very reasonable price.

Bump to the top. Still packed up for shipment due to the death of the buyer. It's the nicest rig of its kind you'll find.

Nice piece of kit :)

As illustrated recently in another fly fishing thread, I am fully geared up, including an Orvis Helios 7 wt with mid arbor Battenkill reel and spare spool with sinking line that essentially duplicate this kit, otherwise I would seriously consider this.

Best of luck selling this. The leather covered tube alone is classic :)

I would say that your ability to toss tigerfish flies will last about 15 mins with a single handed rod. You need a switch or two hander to toss the heavy flies with bite leaders in current.

With a switch rod, I was good for 2-4 hours on the Zambezi before my arms gave out.

You are probably right :)

Thank you for the kind offer :)

Actually, I now rarely use the 7 wt, for this precise reason, as I found that for most fishing I do -- almost exclusively trout -- a 5 wt is plenty enough, and I have been quite lucky with comparatively small flies (#6 is the biggest streamers I use) even on 4+ lbs trout, which to begin with are not so common around here, even on the Colorado River.

I do use the 7 wt on the Kenai River, AK for silver salmon (Coho) though, as it has more spine, which is needed for 10 lbs fish...

Curiously, I have never been tempted to fly fish in Africa. My inner reasoning is that I can fly fish 365 days/year in Arizona if I so wish, from tiny stream to large water to altitude lakes, so when I make it to Africa I really want to spend 100% of my time hunting.

As a matter of fact, I was on Big Lake, AZ (950 acres at 9,000 ft elevation, but happily with a primitive boat ramp) yesterday (snow and 41F air temperature), and I limited out in 3 hours on decent rainbows with a 5 wt and streamers. I typically release everything I catch in mountain streams as the populations are under pressure, not to mention those protected such as Gila and Apache trout, and the fish are generally small, although a couple a large browns can be lurking, but Colorado River Lee's Ferry or "large" high altitude lakes have very healthy populations, and my wife had ordered a family trout dinner sometime during the Thanksgiving holidays :)

14" to 16", 1.5lb to 2lb rainbows: perfect for a family trout dinner sometime during the Thanksgiving holidays.

@rookhawk,

I have forwarded your listing to a good friend who is an avid fly fisherman, but not a member of this forum.

Although I plan to seek revenge on the tiger fish that got away, I am no fly fisherman, and your wonderful equipment would be wasted on me; in fact, if it wasn't for the pictures I would have had no clue what you're talking about in your post.

If you are not already familiar with him, Graham Cawood runs a croc and tiger fish operation out of Tete and has expanded to the Congo. I have no idea if he would be interested.
