Members, unfortunately I am not able to participate in this year`s Black Powder hunt. I recently has two lenses replaced and is currently recovering. But I can still upload photos and stories with videos about what is happening at the hunt.

Here are photos of a Blue wildebeest hunted by young hunter participating the first time in this hunt . The hunter used a .72 Kodiak double rifle , 800gn cast bullet . The bullet was lodge in the back bone , the femur bone...

It matches his beard!

Hat??? I thought he was wearing a sweat band. Girt, I had cataracts removed from both eyes several years ago. About two weeks after the second eye was done, I got new glasses and my shooting improved.

Shootist, I probably will get new glasses after the next visit to the eye specialist this coming week. I already can see much better than previously.

do you guys have any trouble sourcing powder in Africa? To my knowledge you can’t fly with black powder.
No,no, one of the members, Johan Greyling of JS Gunsmith , my mentor is manufacturing high quality black powder here in South Africa , he is the only manufacturer in South Africa . The ZAR black powder is the same quality and better as some imported black powder here in SA. He build his own canons as well and provide fellow black powder shooting members with all the black powder you will need. (y) (y) (y)

I am uploading as I receive the photos ..I am sure there will be a lot of other photos/videos shortly.

Willie Barnard , Doctor/Farmer/Hunter /Botanical expert /Mamba snake bite expert medic managed to push a loading rod through into his hand while trying to get a stuck cast bullet out of the black powder muzzleloader ...he fixed this by wearing a plastic rubber glove ( plastic/rubber is not allowed in the camp area.

The hands of a Medical Practitioner/surgeon , with all those hardened calluses means it tells you as a wounded patient that this is an abled person, extremely handy with a scalpel and syringe...

as well as capable to remove a hand or leg when needed to be amputated somewhere in the bush..he is extremely skillful with a Stilth chain saw and is his preferred machine of choice ..whatching Willie Barnard wielding a chain saw in the bush is like poetry in motion..

.he does like the use of an ax and bush knife as well..these properties make us hunters really feel safe and not afraid of an injury during this hunt deep in the African bush..

No, Sarg it is Dr. Willie Barnard , the person on the right sitting with the young hunter on the left

The .72 double is a heavy beast to walk and stalk with the hole day...

HW, there are not many of the old permanent participants this year. I hope next year will be back to normal .I am asking for photos and will upload.I did ask Willie to take photos of our members who is dressed fully in the 1885 Era clothing. Keep in mind there are no cell phone signals where they are..

Do they hunt in buffalo area this year?

HWL, yes there are a group of 120 buffaloes on the farm, a breeding group and then there are buffalo bulls roaming the whole farm that is not currently with the breeding group..so you have to be awake and on the lookout while hunting, the buffalo bulls are roaming free that is not selected as breeding bulls. Then the camp is on the edge of a river where there are large crocodiles that hunters are hunting when visiting from abroad , trophy hunters..

Gert...................thanks for the fine photos. sorry about the eyes....but you have every prospect of a full recovery, so take heart. Please show a foto of Mr Barnard's 1880's era chainsaw...:)............FW Bill

Hallo Flatwater Bill, no, no not from the 1885 era chain saw...he wields the chain saw when on his farm...it is not easy keeping up with him when we work in the veld on his farm ...it really is spectacular how he handles a chain saw...

Bill, I am fortunate, my eye really are much better ad I see much clearly now than before the operation...next week I need to go for a follow -up to the eye surgeon and will know then how successful the operations have been.
