If you get those prices, I think I'll start selling some of my own!

Unfortunately, from what I've seen, there's very little market for someone else's taxidermy. We might pay >$1000 for a shoulder mount, but it's worth $25 to everyone else.

I saw a sable go for 400 and a trophy mule deer 125, and a desert ram at 1850 ,at a gun auction ,past week end. So yea not a big market for mounts.

Appreciate the feedback! I dont want to give it away but will have to take the best offer I can. Some people are selling stuff for a ton on ebay!

No their trying to sell it on ebay.... huge difference between listing it and selling it.

The not sure you can sell a leopard across state lines it being a CITIES animal.

Your best bet will be an auction with other hunting related items. You won't get what you want for them, but you will get something, and they won't mildew away in a storage container.

:S Welcome: To AH
Taxidermy is a pretty tough sell… it’s almost never worth the “trophy value”.
Red leg is correct, your best bet is to get them included in an auction with other related items. If you can find a lodge or sporting goods store that wants them for display….
Taxidermists will buy them occasionally for parts but won’t pay full trophy price…
Good luck finding them a new home.

I see taxidermy sell for good money on many auction sites. Sure a lot of negative comments on this thread.
OP is a friend of mine and the collection is very nice.
My question to the negative comments have any of you sold any taxidermy? If so what and when.

You are a prick you might think your opinion matters but to me it ain't worth crap!!
See how that works value is based on reality not your opinion.
Maybe think before you piss on someone's post.
Have a good day.

Here is the selling price of some mounts I sold last summer, this was through Joe Pyle Auction, Shinnston, WV. He had a huge sale of mounted animals.

Note the full sized bongo, it was an awesome mount, on a great landscape with realistic plants and leaves, it sold for 775.00. Not long ago I saw a price on here for one for 10,000.00.

I don't see where anyone was really being a prick as you said. One person made a quick joke about selling their own.

People are offering honest feedback about the reality of selling mounts. I tend to just move on when prices are too high for what I think something is worth. But that doesn't make people wrong about what they said.

Mounts are worth pennies on the dollar of what we paid for them. This is seen time and time again.

You said the value is based on reality not their opinion, well, it isn't based on your emotion either.

I was using it as an example! Of opinions.
He might be the nicest guy in the world.
Imagine if people were so critical of a firearm price in the forum.

You think people are saying all of this with no basis just because? We are giving him a heads up because everyone knows .

II see rugs and flat skins take home the most coin. As interior designers love a zebra rub etc.

It’s funny, You will see a lion and leopard flatskin/rug/throw go for WAY more than the full body mount of said lion or leopard. People have no use for those.

We have offered the OP the benefit of our experience. No one was being a - how did you put it - "a prick." Taxidermy appears in Austin Auction shttps://www.austinauction.com/ , with which I am very familiar, every other month or so. Lots of Texans down this way have done a lot of hunting and the estates often have taxidermy. If not for pennies, typical taxidermy goes for nickels on the dollar - regardless of how "nice" the collection is. That said, if he uses the right auction service, at least he will get a buyer.

This is another auction house that occasionally offers taxidermy. http://www.lollibros.com/

I would suggest the OP call such auction houses to get an idea of what this collection might realize.

Is the African shield in the back of the container for sale also?

Your friend is a new member to the forum and his first posts are an attempt at utilizing the marketplace to sell stuff, rather than participating in other aspects of AH.

The responses the post received offered constructive criticism concerning the initial asking price. Your friend seems to have taken the feedback well based on their response and thanks. Typically opening posts in the classified section get a lot more criticism.

Wish the OP GLWS, but second the suggestion to contact an auction house. My experience is most taxidermy isn’t bought by other hunters. They’d rather have their own animals on display instead of someone else’s, it’s bought by business like restaurants, and retail outlets, or interior designers.

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
