Improvised/survival fishing hooks made from a paperclip.

Interesting idea, I get 2 x hooks out of a medium paperclip and my S.A.K. Huntsman is ideal to help me make them!

My attempt...

For interesting sake...

Here are my paperclip fishing hook 'survival/emergency ' experiment scenario findings for what it is worth.

[Finished hook +_ 2.5 cm from top to bottom]

I took a common paperclip to see what the possibilities could be in a fishing set-up....

[Yes other types of wire may be much more suitable and a real fish hook is the best, but what if you only have a paperclip handy?]

1] First ,in the small fish hook format [1/2 of a medium paperclip wire] it is surprisingly strong with the bend, though with force I could pull open this 'hook' somewhat at around 2 1/2 kg [6 lbs].

2] The smaller 2 x bend 'eye' on top where I fastened the sisal rope held up to this force.

3] As the paperclip is made of a 'soft' wire, sharpening the hook tip on a rock [cement slab] was relatively easy.

4]To made this hook with my S.A,K. pocket knife took less than 5 minutes start to finish.

5] I think as an emergency hook it can work on smaller fish, though on you-tube they show some big fish caught with [a different type?] of paperclip.

6] A paperclip as a fishing hook is not ideal, but in a pinch it can work!

7] Do anybody here have any practical experience in actually catching a fish with a paperclip fishing hook---photo please?

Just to satisfy my own curiosity, I am now going to make a fishing hook out of a bigger paperclip [bit thicker wire] with my Swiss army knife to see what its lbs/kg strength is.

Now, this is the way to do it!
Heat the rock up first to cause the moister trapped in the rock to cook-off, you will most likely end up with a flat surface like this one to cook on and no more danger of exploding rock.
