going to take 2 suppressors to the East Cape so thought I would fill out the 1140-0010 import form. well, just learned that you will have to watch your ATF approval paperwork with your stamp on it. the 2 suppressors I bought from the same place entered my trust name differently on each one and they were kicked back. so I had to fill out the paper work with the first line in section one exactly as it appeared on each one. the issue is the company added Jr. to one form and left it out one the second one. got a reply within 15 minutes they received them 2 copies of each now just need to wait for the approval to be sent

for those of you wanting to take your suppressors to Africa and are concerned about the import/ export form the ATF wants you to have #1140-0010 here is my update: after messing up the serial number and not noticing JR. added to of the the trust name I got the paperwork straight and on 11-4 emailed it in (they require 2 copies today I received both forms back approved so no issues with customs if they happen to have some new agent trying to make himself a name , all is good for next April just going to wait till after January to get all the new 4457 forms done

Was this necessary or you wanted to be extra safe? I thought most just included it on their 4457 and traveled with their tax stamp since it’s not a permanent export?

I just wanted to have that little bit more safety. I have just put them on my 4457 and have never had an issue but the State Dept considers them a military munition's item. also wanted to see what would happen as last year my friend was turned down 3 times on his paperwork with no explanation why and I was approved, I just wanted to see what would happen.

A lot of people do that. Legally it is not the correct way to do it.

I took mine to Tanzania in July and just put it on my 4457. Customs couldn't have cared less in coming back through Atlanta. Only thing they checked was the serial number on my rifle. Neither Ethiopian nor Tanazanian authorities cared about the suppressor. Only the rifle serial number and number of bullets I had.

I seem to recall that the then 2IC of the ATF wrote a paper recommending suppressor deregulation and that a Bill to that effect landed on Trump's desk just after inauguration back in 2017. Didn't get approved.

A pity because widespread use of suppressors would show that they are irrelevant to public safety and just part of normal life. Like in many European countries, England and South Africa.

I don't know what happened to the ATF officer who recommended deregulation but I guess he was "retired".

The form 1140-0010 applies to short barreled rifles, machine guns and some other devices. Suppressors are exempt.
The ATF will happily accept the paperwork and track your movements, but the form is not needed.
Silencer Central has a easy to read explanation.

And then watch the class action lawsuit of millions of us to get back the $200 per stamp we have paid.
The ATF lawyers would exempt any refunds for prior owners if they repeal the tax stamp requirements. Not saying I agree with that but sometimes ya just gotta take the win.

If we do get deregulation on suppressors, I'd also expect prices to start falling as businesses who just never wanted to deal with the NFA headaches can start making them.

I've wanted a suppressor for a while, but the $200 stamp and then another $1000 or so for something like a Banish 30 or Banish 46...

I’m a yankee hill manufacturing guy… they make bomb proof, fairly low cost suppressors and have been in the game a very long time… not the lightest, or the most decibel reducing, or latest tech… but for busting hogs they are great…

My hold up in the past has been paying $200 for a tax stamp associated with a $400 suppressor (chaps my ass to pay the atf 50% of what the suppressor is actually worth)…

My guess is if deregulated, costs will come down dramatically… the market will open up significantly and more manufacturers will enter into the game to meet the increased demand…

There are $250 - $300 suppressors available in Europe and South Africa… I would expect you would see US manufacturers develop models to service that specific market space…

Knowing that far more Ruger Americans sell every year than model 70 supergrades, the suppressor companies are going to rush to claim the “entry” level hunting market …

Right now the suppressor companies are mostly focused on the tacticool community… they’re looking at glocks and ARs… that focus will remain… but I’d expect a lot more diversity in the market if things get deregulated…

The last supressor I bought was a Hybrid 46. Mostly to use on a 45-70 and a 375 Ruger. If and I say if you have a good dealer the process is easy. If they have the Silencer Shop kiosk it is even easier. The Hybrid 46 cost $700 plus the stamp. So $900 total. This can fits everything. It is a true one and done deal. Of course they get you on the accessories, but then so does AAC or any of the manufacturers.
The H46 took three days for me to be approved. This was an individual transfer. The trust transfers take much longer. I waited a month for the suppressor to be in stock.

I don't see them ever being deregulated. I'd happily be wrong about that though.

They almost did during trumps last term. Then they lost the majority and focus turned to bigger fish.

if they are removed from the “list” every local tool and die and welding shop will be pumping them out for $100

People have made them at home easily. Calling them a (fossil fuel product trap)

Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.
