Superb customer service at Savage Arms

Tina has been tossing around the idea of a larger caliber rifle for Elk size game and called Savage Customer Service to see if they would build another model 111 Lady Hunter with a few tweaks.

They transferred her to a nice lady named Effie Sullivan. Tina thought she had heard that name before.

Effie remembered Tina by name because she helped build Tina's Savage 111 Lady Hunter .257 Roberts. Matter of fact, she has Tina's picture of the rifle and her 2022 Wyoming Pronghorn on the board in her office.

Effie has worked for Savage for 45 years, and played a major role in developing the Lady Hunter. While chatting she asked Tina what she had in mind. Caliber 30-06, slightly longer and heavier barrel, engine turned bolt, threaded muzzle, wider forend, etc. To each request, her reply was "Sure, we can do that".

At this point Tina was thinking the cost might be climbing beyond reason. We have been toying with the idea of assembling a 30-06 from parts to fit her, and for something similar $2,500 was what we came up with. Effie said this factory custom shop rifle with every bell and whistle Tina could think of would total around $1,300., and delivery in 6-8 weeks.

Next June we'll be joining @Green Chile for a group hunt with @MATTANJA HUNTING SAFARIS and this rifle might be the ticket for the Bushbuck Tina plans to hunt.

Absolutely fantastic customer service and personal attention by Savage Arms. If it shoots sub half inch groups like the last one we ordered, there's going to be a very nice Bushbuck in the salt next July.

They may not the the "finest" rifles on the planet, but I've never shot one that was not accurate.

I find savage a little on the unattractive side… but from a reliability and functionality standpoint, I dont think they can be beat at their price…

And that’s across pretty much everything they make… doesn’t matter if we’re talking a .22 bolt action, an axis, or a 110/111 … they simply work.. go bang every time… and deliver tight, codistant groups..

I’ve never had to call on their customer service although I’ve owned a few of their rifles over the years… super nice to hear that they do that well also… CS is rapidly becoming a lost art in the US…

Sounds like a great rifle to bring to Africa! As others have said, they may not be the best looking make of rifle BUT they are always accurate. I have yet to handle a Savage rifle at any price point that wasn't a more accurate rifle than you could hold in the field. That level of customer service is pretty incredible.

I’ve had a half dozen Savage rifles over the years and all have been accurate and reliable. I don’t think their design is particularly well suited to cartridges much beyond .30-06 power levels, but within reasonable expectations they’re an exceptional value.

I’m a fan of Savage rifles. I own/owned several over the years, all have been very accurate. As a kid, my great uncle let me borrow his savage model 340? in 22hornet. it might be the most accurate I’ve ever shot.

Tina's Savage 257 Roberts is a very lightweight rifle that weighs 6 pounds empty before scope and mounts. Both Hornandy and Nosler factory loads hover around a half inch. Our handloads with 100gr Barnes TTSX bullets shoot between a quarter and half an inch. I've never seen such a small light rifle give this level of accuracy.

Savage rifles do not have the highest reputation but stories like this as well as the fact that every single one I have ever shot has been extremely accurate makes me appreciate their rifles. Plus they are fun and easy to tinker with and every few years I get the itch to buy another savage action and fiddle with it before I inevitably sell it as I have my handful of preferred hunting rifles. The last savage i bought annoyed me though. I had spent several thousand dollars on a custom rifle that shoots in .3-.4 MOA range consistently the year before. I parted together a .243 with a fast twist barrel in my garage and the thing shot a .2 MOA group. I was annoyed that my $800 savage I screwed together in my garage was shooting just as well or better than my fancy custom. I sold that .243 a year or so ago. It never came out of the safe so down the road it went.

I have an Axis Pro 2 with a magazine issue. They are sending me a a new magazine. I doubt it will fix it but they are very responsive to customer service inquiry.

Totally agree! I used a Savage Weather Warrior in 300WSM for many years and I too experienced great customer service!

Savage was the first company to figure out what mattered and what doesn’t in putting out an accurate rifle at an affordable price.

Years ago my wife bought be a Cabela’s Black Friday .308 for Christmas. This was before she was my wife when she was still trying to woo me. Anyways…

I finally got around to shooting the thing and I was shocked at how accurate it was. It was shooting cloverleaf groups with factory Hornady match.

I love hearing stories about a company's product engineering and customer service still headed in the right direction; they are too few and far between these days.

I never really sought out.a Savage, but a couple years ago I bought a low-priced preowned Model 111 in 270 Winchester from the local Cabela's gun library because I wanted to use the glossy Leupold 3-9 scope on it for a different rifle. The 111 turned out to be a strong competitor for most accurate rifle in the safe, and it's nice having one that I don't have to worry about knocking around or loaning it out.

These are my 2 savage Lady Hunter hunting rifles calibered in 257 Roberts and 223 Remington. Not only do I find them extremely attractive, but they are very accurate and the price point is great! As I women, these rifles fit me like a glove and have no recoil and thus I love hunting with them. I love the fit of the stock so much I have a third one ordered in 30.06 but with a few modifications to make it heavier to handle the increase recoil.
