Very deceptive. I found out about them last year. Someone was saying what a great job they do with social media so I started reading their posts. I knew something was not right and it isn’t!

Most of the donors are anti! There are a ton of anti gun groups out there with crafty little pro gun names as well. We must stay aware of the wolves by doing our research. So many charities that portray themselves as helping the needy only help them selves and give money to causes that many of us do not support also. Pretty sad that they can steal and it is legal for them to do so. HSUS is one of the larger ones that portrays itself as a helper, just take a look at their finances. They help themselves not the puppies and kittens that they show on their commercials!

I cant help but laugh at these posts, and propaganda sites like greendecoys, etc. People are so busy trying to not to be swindled by a group that they play right in to the hands of those who benefit from discrediting those groups who are actually trying to do something for sportsmen. Taking stuff written on the internet as gospel instead of finding out the truth for themselves.

I know Land and much of the BHA crew, I have been to/had a vendor booth at almost every BHA Rendezvous, taken part in volunteer field days etc so I believe I have the experience with the group (and many other conservation groups I've been apart of) and its members to form an educated opinion instead of being force fed an opinion by others. Is BHA and its members more on the environmental side, absolutely....... They are a public land advocacy group after all. But Land is a gun owner and hunter and fisherman, as are the rest of the employees. The membership is made up of the most hard core hunters and angler I've ever met or encountered, and therefore vote for those who are most likely to protect the land and access so that they can continue those pursuits.

So no, I wont stay away from them, I will continue to support them until I actually experience these "deceitful" practices myself. Thus far, its been nothing but hunting, fishing, and public lands.............

This isn't aimed at anyone in particular, and people are free to make up their own minds.

More food for thought on BHA, my 2¢ reading this website description is they are more of an obstructionist organization with ideals that are opposite responsible land and water usage, i.e, far left enviro whack jobs.

    https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=180690162

SCI's take is pretty much the same, far left anti-s.

Using an article about Greendecoys take on BHA in addition to American Lands Council as condemnation of BHA is laughable at best. While we are talking about funding, take a look at who funds Greendecoys and then for anyone who enjoys public land, take a look at Jen Fielder and ALC's objectives.

Mike Flynn was a good friend of mine, and I had several conversations about this issue when he wrote that article. My firm had some work on that senate race, there is absolutely zero doubt that the group was formed and played a huge role in getting Tester re-elected. The leadership of BHA had very close ties to Tester, they formed another group that forked over significant money to the libertarian in the race, it was a orchestrated effort and it was successful. I would call them a trojan horse, but they aren't even really trying to hide their intentions at this point.

So you are supporting these socialists? Maybe I missed something between the lines. They have people working for them that used to work for HSUS. That all I need to know.

Thanks for sharing this. I first heard of BHA through Meateater/ Steven Rinella. I know about the controversies related to him: the Meateater company is financially backed by a finance guy who supports anti-gun stuff in California, and he once said something about how he doesn't care for AR-15s. I really like Rinella, he's a good showman and storyteller about hunting.

Anyway, one thing I noticed in the Meateater family of podcasts, and fellow travellers like Into The Wilderness out of Scotland, is that they all go along with the anthropogenic climate change CO2 racket. (I think you can tell where I stand from how I've phrased that. I've been a skeptic since I was in undergrad geology in the early 90s.) I'm mentioning this because it brings up the various opinions one may have, and we don't all necessarily need to fall on a single spectrum of bundled opinions. I happen to think that habitat loss is the overwhelmingly serious environmental issue, and that CO2 alarmism is a disastrous waste of money and a distraction from real issues. But I can understand how some hunters might think that anthropogenic climate change is a real threat (having been browbeaten their entire lives) along with habitat loss and fragmentation. I can agree with them on some things and disagree on others.

Could BHA and its donor organizations be an alliance of convenience based on some shared issues? I don't know, maybe. Could the donor organizations be deliberately trying to build and influence a pro-hunting organization, to then use that influence later to support their causes of CO2 emission reduction, gun control and hunting bans? For sure that's possible. Even though they're gun owners, BHA leadership could be ok with UK/Australia type gun laws because they could think that their bolt action rifles are still safe.

Leaving aside climate, guns and hunting, what about public land access? That's BHA's big thing, and it's something that conservatives can support as well. Back to hunting podcasts (I love podcasts, great way to learn while driving): Vortex Nation is another good one, and they are all about public land, same as BHA, but also very pro gun. Ok, I realize that the issue raised here with BHA is who they take money from, not that they happen to promote public land access along with anti-gun wilderness adventure types. But Vortex makes its money selling optics, whereas BHA is a non-profit. Maybe it's partly forgivable that they accept funding from whoever seems to want to help them on the public land issue?

Another example: I support the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters because I think they do good work in their core area, and they are united with Canada's gun rights groups in opposing further gun control in Canada. But OFAH seems to go along with climate alarmism. Maybe they kind of have to, to be able to communicate with government officials.

Anyway, the BHA funding source thing is definitely a concern. I'd like to learn more. My overall point is that it's possible that some hunting groups may have some leftist positions and it doesn't necessarily mean we can't support them.

Although I'm from Montana and an advocate of public lands/access, I'm not a supporter of BHA because of their liberal leadership and agenda. However, I don't think they are the "Trojan Horse" that some of these websites make them out to be. If us "experienced" hunters alienate new/younger hunters with different political viewpoints, hunting as we know it will be gone in 50 years....
