SOUTH AFRICA: South Africa "Open Zone" Bull Elephant Hunt - May 2026

Congratulations on a successful hunt @R eight looks like you had a good time!
Can you disclose what happened to the meat? I might have missed it, you may have said.
What’s the plan for your return?

Waidmansheil.
Good stalk, good shooting.
I saw our member Valie Enslin from "thats Africa Safari"in the video.
He is a good comrade and a brilliant PH.
I' ve hunted with him severel times and also very successful.
In my Avartar you see his beautiful Verney Carron in .470 Nitro
Congrats.

It truely was a fantastic hunt.

As to the meat. Well, nothing goes to waste in Africa. The elephant was non-exportable. The hide, including the ears, feet, tail and head with tusks were removed and placed into the reserve trophy storeroom. The meat, well the vast bulk of it was removed by some locals for human consumption. What little remained was polished off by the wildlife.

Less than 20 hours after the kill there was very little left beside bone and some gut content.

As for my return.....Valie has planted the seed of Mozambique.....I don't honestly know. But, I will return.

Thankyou. I think we're both fortunate to have hunted with Valie. Yes, that double of his....that's a very fine rifle.

What a fantastic hunt. Everything from accomodations to the wildlife look to be top notch.

You are very cool under pressure to deliver a good shot like that. Waidmannsheil!

Well done Rod.

Some incredible memories made.

Congratulations!

I wish it was possible to keep the whole skull. Even on exportable trophies is it only the tusks that are allowed or can you take full skulls?
Thanks,

I’m assuming that if it was ( and this one is not) exportable then you could take the skull if you wished.

Does Australia allow exportable elephants or is it a flat ban on all? (If you’ve looked into it for future plans).
What did you enjoy more - the bear or the ele hunt? :D

The Australian government is pretty generous with elephant trophies. You can take as many photos as you like no license fees or taxes payable.

But, that’s all that they allow

As to the bear or the elephant …..wow that’s a great question. I can’t answer that at present. Both were/ are……let’s just say…something more than very special.

I just went through this with Canada too, they banned ivory 2 years ago. But I talked to the cities gov people here and its literally just the ivory we cant import.

Skull, panels etc are all fine. so wierd. But obviously Ive been looking at a non export hunt.

I was lucky enough to retrieve all of the projectiles fired on this trip.

2 x 400 grain Woodleigh Hydro’s @ 2420 fps. One was for the frontal brain shot and one for the coup de grace into the chest. The chest shot projectile is slightly deformed.

1 x 400 grain Woodleigh RNSN @ 2365 fps into the shoulder of a zebra. Distance was about 75 yards. The projectile was found under the skin on the off side.

Total of three shots at game in Africa. I’m satisfied.

Nice Report! Im about to pull the trigger on booking the LDE with Patrick. I have been talking about it with him for about 3 yrs now. Romain hit me up the other day with an offer I can't refuse for 2027.

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.
