SOUTH AFRICA: Recent Hunt With Kuche Safaris

Lunch is made for you and you eat it in the field. Sandwiches, chips, snacks and water and soft drinks are available throughout the day as you hunt.

When you return to camp, you take your game to the processing barn with cold storage. Professional skinners cape your animals for taxidermy and hang the meat in walk in coolers. Nothing is wasted and everything is kept in a clean and orderly fashion. There were no foul odors that I could detect. My room was in the building closest to the processing barn, the door to the barn faced away from my building and was about 100 yards away.

Great bullet! I have taken a bunch of deer and around a dozen African animals with that bullet in a .308. It always performs perfectly. That was factory ammo, never been able to find this bullet as a component.

Since breakfast is brief and your time in your room is mostly spent sleeping, most of your waking hours in camp are in the main lodge/dining area. This is a new facility and it is exceptionally nice and comfortable.

All the PHs and hunters gather there together every evening. This is very much a family friendly and happy place. Every night there would be members of the families of Koos and the PHs present. There is an open bar with beer, wine and soft drinks. Lots of comfortable seating and a huge collection of african taxidermy on display. Some nights there were a handful of other hunters, a couple of nights there were a dozen or more. Several hunters brought their wives and kids with them. Everyone has a good time and the atmosphere is as good as anywhere I’ve hunted. That includes a lot of places.

Finally dinner was really well done. Steaks from the best cuts of african game, I especially enjoyed eland and zebra but was all very tender and well prepared.

There were fresh salads, vegetables, breads and homemade desserts every night. Do not plan on loosing weight at this place.

If you want to stay in a small camp where you are the only hunter, this is probably not your camp. Koos does have smaller camps as well as connections with reputable operators in true wilderness areas.

If you want only the most luxurious accommodations, again there may be better options.

But if you are looking for good hunting with good people on large well managed properties, at very reasonable prices, then Kuche Safaris is a fine operation. I hope to hunt other parts of Africa, but I will be going back to Kuche Safaris with my family and friends.

At the risk of sounding like another Alabamian from Highway 10 named Gump.

That’s all I have to say about that.

Thanks to everyone for reading about my hunt and for all the kind responses.

This really is a great Site with a lot of fine people.

Also thanks to everybody who answered my questions in multiple threads when I was getting ready for this hunt. So much good information here.

Congratulations on a great safari!! And I love to see you're using trophy bonded tips, I think they're a great bullet.

Congrats on the great hunt and beautiful animals. I really appreciate the report as we’ll be hunting with Koos and co next August. I’m still trying to figure out exactly what to do, the Free State property for a day or two then move to Limpopo main lodge or what. We’ll have a group of 4 hunters and 4 non hunters (wives and daughters) who want the photo safari experience and it sounds like you saw plenty of animals.

We are booked with Koos for two weeks over Labor day weekend next year and it can not come soon enough for me- I wish I was there now! Thanks for a great report and congrats on a great hunt!

Sounds like you had a great time. Wonderful trophies and thanks for sharing.

Just tell Koos exactly what you are looking for,he is a very straight shooter and works very hard to make sure everyone has a good time and gets what they are looking for.And yes,I saw dozens and dozens of animals, Got lots of good pictures and videos.

His camp in the south is supposed to be pretty nice. I don’t think the wives will like the Limpopo camp. Mine wouldn’t. But I loved it and the hunting was fantastic.

Congratulations! You took some beautiful animals.

There were wives and daughters in the Limpopo camp who told me they were having a good time, but it is rustic and might not appeal to everybody. The Free State area is having a new camp built right now. The open areas and ease of seeing lots of animals might be more appealing to some people.

If you are a long range open country hunter, then it would be the perfect spot. But I have hunted the deep south all my life and am use to making quick shots at short to moderate range.

I am sure Koos and his wife have entertained many wives and can provide things like photo safaris and shopping as well as access to spas and sightseeing.

My wife would want that kind experience but my daughter would rather hunt daylight to dark.

Communicate your needs and Koos will be honest about what he can do.

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
