My son and I spent ten days hunting with Ernest in the Limpopo province of South Africa in late June. We hunted first at Ernest's main camp north of Polokwane about 150 miles south of the Zimbabwe border . This was my second trip to Africa and we had a great time!
We hunted on the 7000 acres of thick bush at the main camp as well as a few other neighboring properties nearby . The operation ran like a fine tuned machine and we were very impressed by the wonderful service and great food.We were the only hunters in camp and the personal service Ernest provided was unbelievable.
We overnited in Joberg at the Africa Sky guest house which was great after the long nasty flight and were joined in the morning by Ernest's daughter Tammy for the 4 hour ride to camp . During the drive she texted her father that I did not like greasy foods , I liked chicken , and I loved Tabasco . That night for dinner for dinner there was a delightful chicken dinner and Tabasco was on the table! The attention Ernest pays his customers is really great !

Can't wait to hear more!

The hunting was a mix of riding in the truck, stalking and ambushing animals at water holes. In total I believe we hunted 5 properties in the 5 days we stayed at this camp . None of the properties were more than a half hours drive and most were 5-10 minutes from base camp . I promised Ernest I would not ask more than 285 questions in our ten days of hunting and my son says I exceeded that on day one!
I have hunted with dozens of outfitters/guides in multiple countries and Ernest is professional and damn fun to hunt with .
My son shot a variety of plains game and was delighted with his 56 inch Kudu which was considerably bigger than his dad's from my last trip.

Always good to hear of a fun father son, or daddy daughter hunting adventure. Great kudu......perhaps your boy will give us old timers a few pointers:D...................FWB

This report so far includes the first half of our 10 day hunt. The next half of our hunt was 3 hours away near Kruger park where we hunted a property called Hannah that Ernest has exclusive rights to hunt on there 18,000 acres . Be back soon !

The problem in Limpopo Province is faraway from Juhanbirg airport it’s took more than 3 hours by car. I been there 3 times but it’s good experience.

Nice animals! I love that picture of the sable!

After five days with Ernest at his Limpopo camp we travelled about 3 hours southeast to very near the Kruger park area to a reserve called Hannah . About 15,000 acres of big tree covered rolling hills with brush choked ravines .
Hannah is a resort where people come to enjoy great accommodations , a lovely restaurant on the top of a hill with scenic views and a game drive . their menu abounds with game from the reserve.
Ernest has exclusive rights to hunt here and we went at it immediately upon arrival. Game was everywhere . Kudu, Gemsbuck Tsessebe , warthogs, Waterbucks , Nyala , Red Hartabeast , Blesbuck, Giraffe , and several others . The property was not hunted for several years and Ernest started back last year.
We hunted via vehicle and on foot, as well as waterhole sits. Every method was productive.
Early on I mentioned to Ernest that if a big Kudu was sighted that i would be thrilled. but I told him that would be after my son had found the critters on his list
We had a blast and really enjoyed the property. My son especially marveled at what he called the "A TEAM" which was a beat up old meat wagon with six or seven strong young men that would show up at our kills and in short order load the game and be gone .
We hunt the mountains of central Montana and Ricky and I often shoot the first legal elk we see , especially if it is down hill to the truck !
We spent 4 full days at Hannah and Ricky and I completed our wish lists and then some .
On the last day after looking at dozens of Kudu bulls Ernest gave me the green light on a beautiful bull . My son wasted no time telling me that it wasn't as big as his 56 inch big guy ! We did not measure my bull because I think it just might be .
Special thanx to Ernest, the lovely lady at Ernest's camp who does the cooking , and John the tracker. John was amazing at both tracking and skinning. I made a poor shot on my Roan and John tracked it for 3 miles before we were able to end the chase . Without John's skills we would have not gotten that Roan before nightfall
