Good god this is fun. I hope everyone is enjoying it. I know I am. LOL

You're talking legal mumbo jumbo fantasy world bullshit in a public forum on the internet. Try the real world for a change, not the black and white legal bubble you live in. Your boy has a cloud over his head, a warrant on his ass and baggage that isn't going away anytime soon. Anyone with half a brain wouldn't book a hunt with him. Since you have all this information
and 22 years as a barrister, why don't you get him over here to the U.S. where you can plead his case? He had enough money to do the SCI show, which ain't cheap by any measure, so surely he has enough in the bank to come back where you can defend him. Who knows, maybe he can prove his innocence and start a photo safari business for cheap tourists.

If you hunt with this guy, why don't you submit a 'hunt report' with photos to this forum when you are done? I'm sure it would help his case...

I am not sure how to approach this thread . I guess someone posted and asked for help regarding an Outfit . He got the info from a few sources .... I guess it is his decision to make after weighing his options .

I am sure there will be an answer in the end on this saga . Just not sure if it is up to any of us to be Judge and Jury on whether he is guilty or not . I guess only time will tell. I do know Hanno as well for quite a long time. I cannot proof his innocense or guilt but I do stand by Not guilty until proven otherwise .

I do not think this is the place to put anybody to trial . Everyone can make up his own mind on this one .

    From Jackson's Plea Agreement:

"23. H.V.R., was a resident and citizen of the Republic of South Africa ("South Africa"). He was a professional hunter who owned and operated A.A.A, a company known to the parties, through which he marketed, sold, and carried out hunts in South Africa and Zimbabwe."

"27. On or about and between April 29, 2015 and May 5, 2015, PAUL ROSS JACKSON and H.V.R. shot and killed an African Elephant inside Gonarezhou National Park in violation of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Act."

    From PHASA:

Hanno has been a loyal member of Phasa but tendered his resignation recently . Section 35 of the Constitution of South Africa states that a person is not guilty until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt in a court of law . Phasa fully supports this . We as an Association treat all members equal. We refrain from making statements without proper information.

    From the DOJ:

"Hanno Van Rensburg, age 44, of South Africa, was charged with federal crimes related to illegal elephant hunts in an indictment unsealed in United States District Court for the District of Colorado, announced U.S. Attorney Bob Troyer and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Office of Law Enforcement (FWS-OLE) Special Agent in Charge Steve Oberholtzer.

As alleged in the indictment, the defendant sought opportunities to hunt large elephants that frequent the area around Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe. He hired a Zimbabwe-based outfitter so that he could lead a hunt inside the park. Once on the hunt, the defendant shot several elephants, and an elephant was killed inside the national park. The defendant then paid somewhere between $5,000 and $8,000 in bribes to Zimbabwean government officials in return for authorization to shoot the elephants, to kill an elephant inside Gonarezhou National Park, and to have the elephant’s ivory released. The defendant also helped a client in an effort to export the elephant out of Zimbabwe, by agreeing to falsely represent that the elephant was killed outside the national park and by agreeing to manufacture and submit a document falsely stating that this client was a resident of South Africa.

In addition, the defendant allegedly attempted to sell an illegal elephant hunt to an undercover U.S. Fish and Wildlife Agent. Among other things, the defendant attempted to sell the undercover agent a hunt in the same location outside Gonarezhou National Park and advertised his willingness to pay bribes to obtain tags to hunt inside Gonarezhou National Park. As alleged in the indictment, the defendant told the undercover agent that “if they need another tag, they get another tag. You know, that’s the negative part of it. The system is so corrupt. If they need to get it, they will get it. If the client pays the money they will find another tag. I am straight forward with you. Corruption is the rule in Africa.” In the process of offering the undercover agent a hunting trip, the defendant proposed that the undercover agent bring approximately $9,000 in “extras” that “we can use in camp to make things straight if we need to.” The defendant also advertised his hunting services by describing in detail his previous illegal hunt in Gonarezhou National Park.

“The U.S. Attorney’s Office and our law enforcement partners work together to support global efforts to protect threatened and endangered wildlife from illegal poaching,” said U.S. Attorney Bob Troyer. “FWS and our prosecutors did an extraordinary job investigating this case.”

“The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is committed to protecting imperiled species around the globe from poaching and trafficking,” said Steve Oberholzer, the Special Agent in Charge of the Mountain-Prairie Region. “These cooperative law enforcement efforts strengthen and protect America’s borders while ensuring the conservation of cherished wildlife species."

The case was investigated by FWS-OLE.

The defendant is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Bryan D. Fields and Suneeta Hazra.

The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law."

I suspect, the government will have a recording of the alleged conversation.

Again, I would pass on any hunt offered by this individual, others are free to choose.

Well gentlemen, I asked a few questions regarding our trip to Africa and honestly had no idea it was going to blow up like this! Quite honestly I was hoping to hear both the good and the bad from others that have been to this outfit so our group had an idea of what to expect. Had I known it was going to get this far out of hand I wouldn’t have asked the questions. A lot are saying this is a bogus post, I can assure you my questions are serious. I’m sure anybody here has questions when they go to another country to hunt. I truly do apologize for this entire thread turning into a shit show. Until I posted this, we was unaware that there was federal charges against the outfitter.

Tony - you asked a good question especially since it sounds like you are coordinated a group type hunt with wives. Yes the post got personal beyond the norm, but these things happen on occasion. You have a lot to consider and think about. I truly hope it works out for you whatever you decide to do. Africa is a special place but there are risks and uncertainties.

In today's world of technology a little bit of googling would have brought up quite a bit of information and yes it is up to each individual to decide if they would book a hunt with all the information out there....sad to say from my side I would not book a hunt with this outfit....especially not if it has anything to do with DG.

No I do not know this individual but it is quite clear that there are many unanswered questions, not only regarding the ele hunt, and until such time as they are cleared up it cannot be regarded as water under the bridge that is for sure.

Very rarely do people get caught up in these types of situations without being party...

This has been interesting! I am not saying anyone is innocent or guilty, great guy or not so great. I think most of the members here are simply saying you are spending a lot of money for what you hope is the trip of a lifetime. Lets remember you are taking wives, so if this trip is not you will never forget it,LOL.

You can spend your money with many many outfitters on here with nothing but glowing reviews or you can book a hunt with an outfitter who has some dark clouds hanging over him.

Again I am not passing judgement but a reputation is built on what is known about a person. Totally your choice, I wish you the best of luck. But don't ask a question and ignore the answers you don't want to hear!

    Now you know.
Which is why you should ask questions.

I have hunted with Authentic African Adventures twice. I am 71 and have been hunting all of my life. I found that all of the personnel were very skilled and professional. I plan to return with my grandchildren and my wife for an extended trip in the near future. I found Hanno and his staff and his lovely family to be absolutely wonderful people. I will recommend him to anyone without hesitation.

According to the client who was there, and who plead guilty to a misdemeanor, was convicted, and paid a fine, Hanno never paid a bribe to anyone. No one paid a bribe to anyone. Hanno was not the PH for the hunt. He went on the hunt at the request of the client as a friend who asked him to attend because he was not comfortable with the political or security situation in Zimbabwe. The PH for the hunt was a Zimbabwe licensed PH. He is the one who told the client which elephant to shoot, not Hanno. No elephants were shot in violation of Zimbabwe law. The tusks were never moved from Zimbabwe and remain there to this day.

The government of Zimbabwe, surprise, surprise, offered to sell him the tusks for $35K, but he refused. Do a little reading about the government of Zimbabwe and decide for yourself if you trust the word of their government. The only allegation of our government that is true is that Hanno was there.

One poster naively suggested that Hanno should simply show up in the US and try the case. Huh? Would you leave your family and business and travel half way around the world and submit yourself to the jurisdiction of a foreign country where you are not even a citizen, then pay some attorney you don't know two or three hundred thousand dollars in the hope that you might get justice? I have been a criminal defense trial attorney, prosecutor, and judge for over forty years and I can definitely state that such a plan is not advisable, even if you could afford it
