So after my article revenge duiker some of you who replied wanted more so I did this
First of all I never grew up hunting but my dad would go hunting without me( I wasn’t a smart kid). so he went to Namibia back in 2015 I would say for his first safari. Then to South Africa for his second safari in 2019….but with that safari he made the biggest financial mistake in his life and sent me photos of his safari. So then I got curious about this hole hunting thing and it spiraled out of control from there until April/May of 2022.
so for my first ever hunting experience we went on a call hunt for impala, blesbok, ostrich, and wildebeest with Frontier safari’s. On the first day of hunting I took a impala female with a Ruger 270 from about 150 yards. The stalk for her was something I will never forget. With a real green hill’s of Africa view we stalk that group of females for a while and eventually I took the shot and she dropped where she stood. And my ph put her blood on my, Game me the bloodied hand shake, and made me eat pice of her liver raw(the texture wasn’t that good but at least I didn’t use steroids like that liver king)
Later on we went after another impala but because I was recovering from so food poisoning from the flight there my Dad took her(no photo for her)
Next day pretty much the same thing went stalking for impala earlier that morning looking for impala or ostrich where we found a group of female’s and I took another female.

The story is pretty much the same throughout the week. But my best shot was on a blesbok female that I took from almost 400m
Those where the best out of my week from Frontier. We tried going after ostrich and wildebeest. But the ostrich there are so annoying to hunt they would just run for no reason(like we would be watching a group of ostrich from a completely different hill and one would just start running it was so annoying!). And I missed my only shot on a wildebeest female.
Before we left Frontier for free state it rained like crazy during that night before and when we left during that morning we got stuck badly in the mud.
So then the hunt in Free state began! We went with Legelela safaris. My Dad’s work friend won the hunt from a fishing tournament from Black Gold Lodge in British Columbia and he didn’t won’t to go alone so asked if we wanted to go…so we did.
I went into most of the details from my revenge duiker article but I’ll give a rundown. We had a basic idea of what each of us wanted to target. Stevan wanted to target a Red Hartebeest, a Gemsbok, and a Impala. Dad wanted to target a Waterbuck and Duiker. I wanted a Gemsbok, and a blue wildebeest.
Stevan would go first because it was mostly his safari and during the first couple of days where he took a SCI class hartebeest and a Sable bull. The land owner had a very good price for his sable and when Steven learned about it he decided to have a sable instead of a Hartebeest but then later that same day we saw this incredible hartebeest that was just a show stopper of a bull and then he decided to just get both him and a sable.
(Unfortunately I don’t have any photos of Stevan’s animals so you will just have to use your imagination)
Then Dad took my gemsbok while stalking for waterbuck. He was just a inch short of SCI class.
Later that day after we delivered dads gemsbok to the sliming shed we went out hunting again. before sun down we saw a group of vervet monkeys and dad and Stevan decided to shoot them. And so they shot two monkeys. But all they wanted from them was the skull’s so we took them heads. So before we got back to camp I thought of something very funny. When we got to the skinning shed I grabbed the two heads and slowly walked up behind one of the tracker’s who was not with us during the monkey hunting. And with those heads in my hands I said, hay HEADS up. When he turned around he gave out a little yell. I won’t show the photo because it’s a bit on the grim side.
Then the day after the land owner came up to us and offered a very old breeder Gold wildebeest bull (that we saw several times before) for the same price as a blue wildebeest. So immediately after he said that we went after him. With my Dads 30-06 I placed a perfectly good shot on him but then my PH got temporarily by the sun so it was difficult to find. Eventually we found him and I took another shot at him(the first two shots made just one big hole in him) where the process repeated and eventually I took one more shot at him and he finally went down….next time I hunt a wildebeest I’m using 338 or 375.

If you want the full story read my revenge Duiker article. But dad felt bad about taking my gemsbok so decided I should go after a sable. So after a very long stalk we lost the sable but came upon a very big SCI class Duiker.
After that me and my dad quickly left to go talk to oasis tannery about buying some leftover buff skins for saddlery and other leather crafts for me to do(have yet to receive any leather) but during that time Stevan got himself a gemsbok and a impala.
The day after it was dads turn to get the Waterbuck that he wanted so then he went on his stalk while I stayed at the truck. About an hour or two I heard a gun shot and about 10 minutes after I heard a another gun shot. When the trackers came to get the truck I asked if dad was successful and they said yes and very big. So then we drove up and there dad stood with a SCI class waterbuck(29 inches on one horn and 28 on the other)
It was a most excellent hunting experience and I am thoroughly excited to go again in the future.
