I went on my first African safari this fall. I wanted to write this review as a Thank You for all the advice I gathered from this site but put it off until now, sorry for the delay.

I purchased my hunt at the local Friends of the NRA dinner August 2014. To be perfectly honest an African safari wasn’t even on my “things to do list”, but Crown Royal has a way of making me do things I hadn’t planned on! Numzaan Safaris had donated two hunts to the Richmond Friends of the NRA and one had my name on it.

So just about one year later I was on my way to Johannesburg. Touched down on August 31 and was met at the gate by two representatives from Riflepermits.com. This was money well spent in my book, my first time traveling with firearms and alone. They had me through that airport like I was OJ headed for the Hertz counter! Met my PH Juan “John” Malan and we cleared the rifle through the police and we were on our way to camp. All of my travel for the stay was in a Mahindra pickup truck. John was great company and a wealth of info about Africa and the animals. Camp was at the Koedoesfontein Game Farm. I just happened to be the only hunter in camp and had the run of the place. The Numzaan staff treated me like royalty.

First day out hunting we traveled to a large tract of land near the Botswana border. I saw Zebra, Kudu, Warthog, Impala, Waterbuck, Buffalo, Giraffe it seemed everywhere you looked there was game. As we were stalking up to glass Impala we saw some warthog, John pointed out a sow with very nice tusks and said we would have a hard time finding a boar as good and I should take the shot. Coming from Virginia it was amazing to me how tough this warthog and all the animals were, whitetails are tough but nothing compared to African game. So a shot from the sticks and I had my warthog. After the handshakes and photos, we continued hunting and later that day I was able to get a nice Impala ram.

Second and third days the weather changed, the temperatures dropped and the wind blew. We bounced around and where game had been everywhere just the day before we couldn’t find anything. I guess that’s why its hunting…

We stayed in camp one day and I was able to tour the farm with the game manager. That was very interesting and if you ever have an opportunity to spend some time doing that I would recommend it.

The weather improved and we moved to another tract of land to hunt. We found a small herd of wildebeest and played hide and seek until we got into a position to shoot. I was able to get my wildebeest after a poor shot on my part and some great tracking from the staff. Later that day we found a nice Gemsbok, I redeemed myself with this shot. We still needed to track for about 200 yard and when my PH John saw the animal down he started getting excited. I thought I had done something wrong. He later told me this was one of the largest Gemsbok he had ever had a client take. I’m very happy with this trophy.

The next hunting day I was able to take a Zebra and a very nice Blesbok. My wife is looking forward to a Zebra rug.

The last day I hunted I wanted to take another Impala, so John arraigned for us to hunt a new farm, lots of game around and a short stalk later I had another very nice Impala.

I didn’t find out the scores of any of my animals until the day I was leaving.

Impala 55-3/4” Silver

Blue Wildebeest 79-1/4” Silver

Kalahari Gemsbok 91-1/8” Silver

Blesbok 47-5/8” Gold

Impala 60-5/8” Gold

.308 win
180 gr Remington Core-lokt

Needless to say I had a great time hunting with Numzaan and would recommend them to anyone. The accommodation were better than I expected, the food was great and plenty of it, in the evenings there was always a fire to sit by, the beer was cold and the company good. I dont know what else I could have asked for.

Porn attached.

I very seldom drink any more, but after seeing this, I may just have to a couple of shots of Crown before my first safari. Looks like you had a great hunt to me!!!

Congrats for a great hunt and some very nice trophies !

That Gemsbok is really good.

Nyati and Wheels, Thanks ! I'm really proud of the Gemsbok. I have him coming home as a shoulder mount. I may need to cut two holes in the ceiling and send people to the attic to see all of him. But he's got a place on the wall.
