SOUTH AFRICA: Did Someone Go Hunting With Rance Game Farms In Eastern Cape?

Anyone been there ? Seen pics of a MONSTER Kudu taken from there. Just curious if anyone has insight into the game, PH, and overall experience.

Hunting kudu in the Eastern Cape can get tricky. The Eastern Cape Kudu, a sub-species (I think) of the Southern Greater Kudu, is a smaller bodied animal, as a rule, and sometimes, the horns, which are also generally a bit smaller the the Southern, can appear proportionally larger on the smaller bodies animal. A PH with experience with both types of kudu can tell them apart easily. I can't.

Having said that, the picture Brickburn posted seems a monster!

The home range for the Eastern Cape Kudu is only a small pocket that is quite a bit further east and up the coast a bit. I'm confident there wouldn't be any around this location.

The EC in the old days was not know for big kudu, if you got a 52 inch kudu you were lucky. A lot of kudu are being relocated from the North down to the EC, in a hope of improving the lengths of the kudu, this has not helped. It has a lot to do with the minerals in the soil.

I stand corrected: The Eastern Cape Greater Kudu range is almost right on top of the location of the Rance Safari locations according to the SCI map. I highly doubt the picture above is of a 59" Eastern Cape Greater Kudu though.

Here we go again EC vs Limpopo Kudu I will say again, a Kudu ear is more or less 12 inches long, do the math.

SCI treats them as separate for record book purposes. I don't think Rowland Ward does though not certain.

Hi, i hunted on johns farm in 2013 and theres some seriously big kudu on the farm, my brother hunted a 56 inch kudu and we saw plenty that were bigger, a friend of mine was over last year and managed a 60 inch kudu, superb place to hunt , all the best Graeme

Never hunted or heard of that outfit, if its a High fence farm chances are that the Kudu are imports and are Greater Kudu Your East Cape Greater Kudu for the most part are free range I say for the most part because I seen one get spooked and jump the fence right in to the high fence area. the one you see in my avatar is a Monster in my book 51 1/8 inches free range Eastern Cape Kudu. Good luck on your hunt.

Great Trophy! What are your plans for the mount? I'd have a hard time cutting a shoulder cape from that kudu after seeing those markings.
