I recently returned from a South African hunt with Randy at Choice Africa Safaris, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. The communication leading up to the trip was excellent and made for a focused, well-planned hunt once I arrived.
I chose to hunt exclusively with my Ravin R29X crossbow, with a Sable and a Black Impala at the top of my priority list. After covering a large area without finding the right Sable, we shifted locations and began a targeted pursuit of a specific bull that proved incredibly elusive. After an initial miss, persistence paid off, and I was able to take a truly magnificent Sable.
We then took a day off so my non-hunting wife could enjoy a photo safari around the property, as well as visit a local school where we donated supplies—both meaningful parts of the trip.
Next, we turned our focus to the Black Impala. After spending a day and a half in a blind with only a brief opportunity, we switched to a spot-and-stalk approach. As time was running short, Randy offered the option to use a rifle for a shot at a monster ram, but I chose to stay committed to the crossbow. We kept grinding, and in the final hours everything came together—I made a perfect shot and couldn’t help but celebrate.
I truly appreciate Randy’s dedication to my goals and his support of my decision to hunt with a crossbow. I returned home not only with both of my target animals, but also with great memories and new friendships. If you’re considering a South African hunt, I highly recommend reaching out to Randy at Choice Africa Safaris.
