My Wife & I just returned from our Sept 2025 Safari. Originally we were to be on a 10 day safari with Limcroma after a 5 day safari with African Barefoot. Things changed in Africa and after 6 days at Limcroma we transferred back to African Barefoot. I will post a little about African Barefoot to start along with some photos from there, and it may take me a little bit but I will do the same for Limcroma along with some photos.
Wow what can I say, African Barefoot turned out to be well beyond our expectations. We arrived at night and listened to the Hippos talking just 50+ yards from our door. Pretty cool. The property is so diverse, offering mountains, river banks, open fields and thick brush lands. To hunt with a bow where the original Bushmen hunted is pretty special and they left their drawings on the rocks and caves there.
I primarily hunted with a bow and my PH was Herman Swanepoel.He is a great PH and I look forward to hunting with him again. I did however shoot my first animal with a rifle on this trip and my first animal with a crossbow to. We tried all kinds of things and it was a blast.
This was the first time I tried hunting at night and we were treated to a very very big leopard coming into our bait that night. That was certainly cool to see and I shot a brown Hyena about an hour later. I was using the crossbow to hunt at night. The second night we hunted we were sitting for Bush pig, and I shot a Ginet Cat. We decided to leave it out there for a bit so we could continue to sit for Bush pig. Well an hour later when we went to retrieve the cat we found where it had died only about 15 yards away, but a fresh hyena track was what got to it first..
The Hippo was my first gun hunt. After locating the Hippo, we sat for 3-4 hours waiting for the hippo to leave the water so I could shoot it with my bow, but he just decided to stay in the water. So I decided to take him with the 375.
Kim also used a rifle to take her Giraffe and King Wildebeest. Everything else she used her crossbow. Her PH was Aldine Kruis and my wife thought she was great. These two women went all over and tracking thru the bush and had a great time.
I have been on many Safaris and have been bowhunting in RSA for over 30 years. Reon & Elmay Van Tonder (the Owners) really do things right. They are a part of every hunt that happens there. They would come out and help us retrieve the animals load them up and celebrate right there out in the field. Reon personally took my wife Kim on her Giraffe hunt and came with me and Herman on our Hippo hunt. We talked to them and saw them every morning before leaving, during the day and again every evening. Everyone was part of the hunt, not just someone in the office.
They went out of there way many times for us and that is what you want watching your back in Africa bet it on a dangerous game hunt, or you feel uncomfortable somewhere and need someone to drive 3 hours and pick you up.
But anyway it all about the hunt.. so here are some photos from African Barefoot and I will add photos of the animals from Limcroma this week.
