Guys, there are a lot of big pigs running around this year!.

Just returned from my latest hunt with Crusader Safaris in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape and there are great numbers of mature boar warthogs this year. A lot more pigs and a lot more big pigs are being seen right now. They seem to be at the high point of the boom-crash cycle at the moment. Most of the landowners we talked to are eager to have hunters shoot off as much of the surplus as possible.

Now, obviously, I only know whats happening in the areas I hunted. But for certain, along the southern coast of the country, there will be some good sets of tusks taken.

Here are the two I took on the same day in the Eastern Cape.
Check out the fighting tusk on the lower boar!

This is my brother's East Cape monster (he actually lost another one this size)

Finally, the brute I took in KZN after we'd blown an opportunity on, yet, ANOTHER big boar an hour earlier.

The smaller of mine was misjudged in the body size department, but you get the idea. Is anyone else seeing this kind of action this? If someone has info on warthog populations in other areas of the country and/or Namibia, Zim, etc. please chime in.

Hope to see some mastodon tusks this year!

And just for good measure:

Come on, man, smile!

Nothing beats a good pig hunt!

Congrats, gotta love the piggies.

Nice warthogs and a bonus bushpig! I've tried for them in both the Save & Bubye conservancies in Zim- not too common due to high lion predation. Coutada 9 in Moz (Mokore Safaris) has got some brute warthogs.

Congrats, sounds a fun hunt!

Congrats on your pigs they are some nice ones.
