The stars aligned this past Saturday evening and I managed to take this doe with my H&H no.2 in .375 2 1/2 at about 50 yards.

Lovely! Waidmannsheil!

Hey man, great shooting, Congrats, what bullet? 235gr Woodleigh?

That sweet carrying little H&H has to be a ton funner to hunt with and shoot than that giant 8 Bore black powder rifle you sold me, have taken a couple deer with it, you can pack that pinch of Cope in either side of your lip, top or bottom, doesn't matter, after the shot, you'll repack it! :D

What would be a comparable caliber to the no. 2 2 1/2? Sounds like a fun cartridge.

Very nice rifle & cool old caliber, well done on taking game with her.

What load are you using, I have a few different rifles in .375Ex 2 1/2 in, I mainly shoot 200-235gr bullets but all are bolt guns & none are proofed for the 320gr load.

Hello old friend,
The bullet was a 270 grain Hornady.
You are exactly right about the H&H being more fun to shoot than that steel butt plated 8 bore was. I'm glad to hear took some deer with her. About 5 shots in a session was about all I want to shoot that beast.....and I was a lot younger then.

Thank you sir!
The load was 43 grains of IMR4895 and a 270 grain Hornady round nose soft point. I also loaded a few 235 grain Speers with 46 grains of the same powder that are showing great promise. I have some 200 grain bullets I plan to try next.

Magnum version, certainly nothing as fine as your 2.5”.

Also I admire people who own fine old guns and hunt with them.
I've used every magnum 375 that I've owned on deer. It also works well on bobcats.
I've been very fortunate over the past few years to be able to acquire a few old rifles and I hunt with all of them. It's what they were made for.

Probably the .375 Winchester would be the closest I can think of.
Yes it is a very fun cartridge especially in that old double.

Not to intrude too much into your post but I think the 375Ex 2 1/2in is a bit more than the Winchester, in-line with the 9.5x56 -57 MS - Mannlicher–Schönauer, bit less than 358 Winchester, reasonably powerful & would benefit from some modern bullets if used regularly on game.

In a bolt gun I can up the loads a bit & use any projectiles that I fancy.

Did the Hornady 270gr set up ok on the Doe you shot here ?

It’s always great to see these guns making back into the field and doing what they were built to do.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
