Sellier & Bellot TXRG 150 gr. 7x57 use?

I use S&B 7x57 brass for my Ruger 275 Rigby. The factory rounds in 140 gr shoot quite well. The brass however is a bit out of spec. The head, for example won’t fit in RCBS shell holder. Plus the brass case head is a bit thinner than REM. Or Win. Brass. When I re-prime using my Lee priming tool, the primers don’t quite fit just a bit below the case head as they should. Instead, they seat a bit proud and require a run through my old RCBS primer to seat fully just a bit below the case head.
The S&B case will fit in a #2A shell holder (rather than the standard #2 for other 7x57/.275 Rigby cases)

Yes, I’ve used them to hunt red stag in Denmark. Very accurate and potent ammunition. But the propellant burns a little dirty, so be sure to give your rifle barrel a thorough cleaning afterwards.

I actually came in to say this and glad I'm not the only one who noticed this.

Their ammo is very, very dirty burning. I bought a box recently for break-in fodder for a new 300WM. Holy moly I'm never doing that again. Break-in cleaning takes at least 25% longer due to the powder fouling.

Can't speak to performance. They've always gone bang for me. Cost-effective but very, very dirty.

If you are not planning to shoot stegasaurus the 173 SPCE will wok just fine. Mymauser 98 absolutly loves them and everything I have shot with the dies forthwith. What’s not to like holes on both sides and copious short blood trails. Give them a try.

I'm very glad I didn't bid you up on that whitworth! It was very tempting as I am wanting a nice 7X57, but I'm thinking I'm going with a 7X64 ZKK or ZG47 is my hope.

I may have to give these rounds a bit of a try. Generally for these older rounds I go old standard heavy and slow. Or really light and fast. This one seemed middle of the ground.

This has done very well for me on PG up to kudu size...very accurate...headshots on impala, etc. Was also my load for leopard. I wouldn't change a thing about it.

Any feedback on the S&B 173 gr. SPCEs or the Federal 175 gr. Powershoks?
I have used the S&B 173 gr SPCE’s soft point cutting edge. I have used them the last couple of seasons on deer at home. They are indeed a cup and core bullet.
They work fine on our soft skinned sika deer. Any bullets I recovered were quite broken up. They would not be my bullet of choice for African game. Nosler Partition, Norma Oryx would, imho, be preferable.

Glad you didn't run it up as well, but also that I didn't snatch away something that you were really gunning for (pun intended ).

A 7x64 ZKK or ZG47 sound really cool...good luck in your quest!

Funny you should mention those...I checked out Hendershots and they were Out of Stock on pretty much everything 7x57.

Yes, the website will say that. Tell them you need it for an upcoming hunt and they can rush it through. They did for me. I don't think they keep a lot of backstock on hand.

Great to know. Thank you!

Another note on this load...out of 15 one shot kills on that hunt, no bullets were recovered. All exited with good expansion on game from impala to kudu in size.

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
