HISTORY: In 1999 SCI acquired 100 of the Ruger 1H .416 Rigby rifles. On the left side of the receiver was engraved "Safari Club International Limited Edition # of 100. This one is 28 of 100. On the right side of the receiver is engraved "Year of the Rhino" with an engraving of the animal below it. On the bottom rear of the forearm is the emblem of Safari Club International in gold leaf.
I found this rifle in October, 2013 in a pawn shop in Pensacola, Florida. It 'appeared' to be new and never fired. I bought the gun at this time. In December, 2013 my son and I fired one box (20 rounds) of Fusion 400 grain ammo out of it. I do not remember the type of bullet other than it was 400 grains. Later that month, the rifle was cleaned, placed in a silicone gun sock and went into the back of my safe. There it remained until 2 years ago, when my eye sight deteriorated to the point I can not shoot with open rifle sights any longer. I ordered a high visibility front sight from New England Custom Guns to see if it would help. I removed the factory front sight blade and tried to install the high visibility blade. It does not fit and would need grinding for it to do so. I never had that done. The original blade has remained in the safe in a plastic bag until a few days ago when I re-installed it on the rifle. That sight blade now has rust on it which you can see in the last attached photo.
The rifles were acquired by SCI to sell or give to their chapters to auction off to raise money. I only found one document through an internet search where that actually occurred at a Montana chapter in the fall of 1999.
About two years ago, I called SCI HQ in Arizona to see if they had any more information on any of these 100 rifles but specifically #28. I talked to three different people, but no one had any idea what I was talking about. So I no longer pursued that avenue for information.
Since I bought a RSM Rigby about 6 months after the 1h, I have only taken the RSM to the range. The 1H stays safe bound. It has never been taken hunting and only to the range one time. The pictures will speak for themselves.
I have decided to post this rifle for sale. I am asking $1500. There is no box nor scope rings. The folding front sight is adjustable and as of 2013 was zeroed for 50 yards. I will send the rifle to your FFL, first placed in a bore stor and then into a Plano case, then the Fedex approved box. I will accept most any form of payment, but if you choose to send a personal check, I will hold the rifle until the check clears the bank.
