Was watching a driven game you tube video and noted this brand of double rifle, they have their own cartridge, the 425 African Scheiring. Interesting, wont replace my "want" for a Heym 89b in .500 NE but I thought it was worth posting here for the discussion.

The tradition of all these Austrian gunsmiths lies in the Alpine region, not in the African bush. The very baroque design of the rifles reflects this. The builders of rifles for Africa and India of the German-speaking countries were primarily located in Suhl/Germany, not in Ferlach/Austria. Sure, everyone is trying to catch a part of the market nowadays.

The cartridge 425 African Scheiring seems to be a suitable one for big game hunting, but with such cartridges you have to stock up for the rest of your life because they are in relation to one particular rifle maker and can disappear with him.

When I was young and was taken “up north” to bird camp, deer camp and rabbit camp. The Austrian and Hungarian hunting culture was by far the most influential in my family’s hunting and their friends hunting circles.

There’s something very gothic looking about the rifle. Not necessarily a bad thing, but just not for me.

My favorite Austrian gun maker would have to be Franz Sodia. He used to make some really good double rifles.

There is a video with the caliber and rifle 425 Africa alos with the hunt,

Also Franz-Albrecht is using such a double rifle (not this caliber) - the rifle opening system allows to save a lot time in reloading: look at 5:00 drivenhunt with double rifle + reloading

In one of the "Buffalo fever video", where Franz-Albecht is hunting in Uganda wiht Mr. Scheiring.

Mr. Scheiring is also making vierling - rifle with 4 barrels!

I never realistically wanted to be a millionaire until I saw this rifle, LOL! What a beauty.

However, is that new caliber a killer rather than a "stopper" ?

An underlever? Nice. If they would make a less ornamental version, I think it would be a really nice choice for a DG double.

For advertising purposes it would have been better to show a buffalo hunt where the buffalo is killed with one shot, rather than a buffalo that runs away after the first shot and then go down in a hail of bullets. Everything is not very convincing, gives an inexperienced hunter a bad impression of buffalo hunting and does not demonstrate the good working of this cartridge.

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
