It is always fun to delve into history as it turns up fun tit-bits like this. This is a statue of Cyrene, the namesake of the Roman port in North Africa. According to legend, Cyrene was a noted shepherd who was graced with two hounds from Athena to help her hunt lions that would prey on her flocks. The Romans honored her memory of strength as the ideal Roman woman. What we can take away from this is that no matter the culture or the century, everyone wants a good trophy picture!

Statue of Cyrene is from the Roman collection of the British Museum, currently on loan to the Frist Art Center in Nashville, TN

Thanks for sharing.

Wonder what the trophy fees were?

In those days you didn't have to go to Africa to hunt lions! And these members on AH wouldn't constantly be requesting load data!!!
