How did you mount your Sable?
Ok I have my Sable and now I have to decide how to mount it. It measured 40-1/2" I know it is personal preference, but how would you mount it? If you have taken one can you post a pic of yours and tell how big it was? Just looking for ideas. Thanks!

definitely a floor pedastral ,mount , or if a second choice would be a wall pedestal ........
I havnt been blessed in the taking ,of a noble giant yet......
but in less than 80 days , hopefully that's going to change..........

Such a Royal Antelope deserves a Pedestal at least nothing less, spend the money it's worth it. Or life-size . or double pedestal.

Considering Sables are very sought after, most hunters will only take one and its a costly animal; its worth it for unique mount like a pedestal if you can.

Am I the only one that had a little bit of a snicker when reading the heading of this thread?

If I can give some advice and that is that when they cape the animal let them cape the whole skin. This will give you the benefit of options when deciding on a specific mount together with your taxidermy. The shape of the horns with sable is also a deciding factor. Your available space in your room also comes into play.

Enjoy your upcoming hunt and hopefully you can realize one of your dreams with this truly amazing animal.

    Regards
    Wouter

38.5" with very heavy bases, not a giant but an old bull that was very tough to get, we tracked him for 2 days in Zim and got close a few times in thick bush but could not get a shot until
last light on the last day of my safari, good stuff ! My only caution would be that I have seen many pedestal mounts where the corners of the mouth are turned up like a smile and I have yet to see a
    wild animal smile :)

I have yet to take one but completely agree that a pedestal is the way to go.

It was a floor pedestal for me also. Noble animal deserves a fitting mount.

No your the only one who's mind works that way ;)

For sure get it skinned for a full mount... That keeps your options wide open and your taxidemist can always cut it down. You can go down but once the skinners cut that cape you can't go back up to full mount, or pedistal if they cut it short... and you never know, you might want the front legs or something included in the mount so keep your options open.

I have regretted a couple animals I had cut for shoulders and wished I had more.

I had my Sable done in a pedestal mount. I made the pedestal with cherry wood, and used the Sable back skin in the panels of the pedestal.[IMG]

I would definitely go for the pedestal mount. I have two shoulder mounts, but wanted them for door entrance, the next one will be pedestal.

I have not shot mine yet. That said they noble beasts and deserve nothing less than a pedestal mount. If you could swing it budget wise I'd use that "F word" my wife don't like too much. "Full Mount" it!!:E Big Grin:
