Ruger/Winchester African/Safari Express Wish list

Imo the the 375's in Ruger and Winchester are too heavy to be scoped (especially winchester). The perfect finished ready to hunt weight in 375 is between 8.5-9 pounds imo. This leans me towards the push feeds (such as browning and remington) just because of the weight. So come out with a 375 rifle that weighs no more than 7.5 pounds

The ruger winged safety is pretty hard to find when you are in a hurry. It seems they could make that longer if they really wanted to. While I personally think the ruger is the better rifle, I would choose Winchester just because of the easier safety. That being said, the Browning/Savage tang and Remington safety are better imo.

I think I'll just buy a Browning :A Whistle:

Or a Blaser R8!

Exactly. My 375 is 7.75# without a scope.

I’m partial to the Winchester after having a few-
1) Lighter weight as prior mentioned. 8.5lbs for a 375.
2) Older Trigger Design or the MOA trigger capable of getting down to 3lbs. I’ve had to back the MOA trigger screw all the way out to get close.
3) 14 LOP standard. Most magnum customs have longer wood to help with recoil.
4) Also agree with the red pad. The NECG 1.25 is great.
5) 4 rounds in the magazine capacity.

M70 for me too.

As mentioned:
- upgraded wood option - oil finished
- blued barrel rather than matte
- red pad
- slightly narrower barrel contour on the .375 (similar to on the Alaska model)

Replace you Ruger African with the RSM, Ruger Safari Magnum, available in .375 HH .416 Rigby and .458 Lott and only those calibers unless you are having a complete conversion with a new barrel and gunsmith work, such as my .404J. They are harder to find and they cost more, but are much more rifle in all respects than the current Ruger African. They were made from 1990 to 2010.
This is what Ruger had to say when I asked about the different versions of the RSM.

PS: I would ask Ruger to make a 26" barrel optional. Insist they use real cross bolts, not just drill a hole and fill it with a decorative screw. I would also like to see better quality iron sights. Capacity is not an issue. If you can't do it in 4 rounds, two more won't help.

I just like the idea of mag capacity haha, though I agree with your statement. I think the Rugers could be amazing with a few relatively minor upgrades and I would be happy to pay a little more for them from an American company. My Ruger scout is my favorite rifle (aside from the Savage 30-06 my Dad gave me as my first deer rifle.

The Scout rifle, has given me an idea. Rather than sell my Alaskan, I think I might get the PT&G bottom metal for a detachable mag. Build it into a Scout/Tactical style .375 Ruger
Hahaha I was a lowly Specialist E4...My username is just a name from a book character...Has anyone read Congo by Michael Crichton?
Thank you for service! I myself didn't serve, but I've got a friend that came out as SSG. He has told me some funny stories dealing with LT and CPT. That's why my question. I was going to get him stirred up with it lol

I liked to mess with my officers for sure. Rile them up.

I'll tell you a few about dealing with Spec 4's! :Banghead:

Ruger hasn't made any of those rifles since at least 2010 so don't think they will be cutting or making a longer barrel for you although many smiths or barrel companies such as PacNor would be glad to help you. I still have two RSMS and have owned many through the years. They all weighed around 9 1/2 to 10 pounds without a scope. All of the Express rifles are somewhat lighter but still heavy for caliber in my opinion. I currently have one in .300 Win Mag.

I have to wonder sometimes about these makers. They don't seem very "in tune" with the wants of hunters and shooters.
I would love to see Winchester offer the Safari Express in 30-06, 300 Win mag, 300 H&H, 7X57,...etc. You know, popular plains game calibers.
I have one in 375H&H that I purchased a ebony tipped super grade stock with red recoil pad for and I would love to see the same set up in a lighter caliber.
The 375's and up need at least one more, prefer two more, in the mag well too.
Right now would be the perfect time for it too because the quality of these Portugal model 70's is great. I own pre 64's but really and truly if you throw out the nostalgia part I think the new guns are better quality. I just don't like the barrels with no sights because I prefer having iron sights, sighted in, paired with QD rings for any rifle I travel with. I also prefer the barrel ring swivel because it allows a longer barrel to carry lower so it hangs up less on limbs and I have found no disadvantage with accuracy. Plus it just looks cool. So, come on Winchester, give me something to get excited about.

they have made the “safari express” in 338. I sold two of them when in the biz. Almost bought one - wish I had.

Until this guy posts something on pay it forward free I would avoid him at all costs.

If it hasn't sold by next week I might be interested. Stock would have to be changed along with some other items. I'm already having a 416 Rigby built so money is a tad bit tight.

Hey pal! I'll take all the .375 bullets if they're available.
Thanks!
