I'm clearing out some room in the safe and wrangling funds for my first trip to Africa next year, so a few things must unfortunately go. Up first is a 1977-ish production, pre-warning, Ruger M77 tang safety model in .280 Remington. I've owned the rifle for approximately 15 years and it pretty much just lives in the safe, so it's time to move it along.

Pictures reflect condition - it shows some hunting and safe wear, but clearly hasn't been abused in its nearly 50 years of existence. I tried to show the stock blemishes as best I was able. The metal is quite clean with the exception of muzzle wear and a ding at same, however not near the bore. Factory bottom metal shows probably the worst, with some scratches and finish missing. Otherwise, the bluing is exceptionally deep and well polished, with its few markings clear and crisp. The stock appears to be professionally glass bedded and free floated, and the trigger is excellent. The original 1" rings are included with the rifle.

I have fired this rifle probably 100 times since I've owned it, and was able to get 140 grain BT and Accubond handloads to group consistently around 1 to 1.25 MOA. I can send load data with the rifle if needed but I don't think I did anything groundbreaking.

Asking $900 plus shipping/insurance to you. I can accept check, zelle, USPS money order, cash, precious metals, possibly even trades for the right thing.

I realize that I am somewhat new here, and that being a first-time seller on this forum I am subject to extra scrutiny - I get it. I am happy to discuss on the phone, show the rifle in person, or send additional photos as needed. I'm located in northern Wyoming if any locals would like to do a FTF transaction.

That thought did occur to me while I was taking photos this afternoon. If it doesn’t sell, I will consider taking it alongside my .375.
Yeah, Nobody wants it. I think you’re stuck with it.

Like who wants a Ruger made Mauser style action with deep bluing and a walnut stock chambered in a neat plains game cartridge on an African hunting website.

A nice Kahles from that era would top it of for clarity and class.

Like all the good buys. Wrong country, Wrong currency.

I've always said Rugers are a roll of the dice, but I can say I've had more good one than bad. I have a tang safety in 220 Swift that shoots real good. I would think the 280 will probably shoot good to. At least good enough for Antelope and Elk.

Beautiful rifle.

From Belesbok to Waterbuck, that rifle in 280 with 140 grain bullets would be hard to beat.

Thanks guys. It is a great rifle in a great hunting caliber, and I initially bought it to hunt with. However, I've found that I tend to be rather unkind to my elk and mule deer rifles, and didn't want to abuse this one. I always thought I'd use it to hunt whitetails or pronghorn, but that hasn't happened either. Hell, it hasn't even been scoped in several years.

How long is the barrel?

I'm also a noobie on this forum, but don't post much because mostly I am looking for deer rifles. Pretty cool stuff but most is way more than I need, this is right up my alley!!

G’day from Australia.

Nothing wrong with looking for deer rifles. Gotta get out anyway you can and enjoy life.

I have a .280a.i that Flattens Fallow and I’m working up loads in a 7x64 Tikka I bought for my wife.

I reckon that Ruger looks great and will be good in the hunting pics because I like traditional looking rifles. Would look great in Africa too.

Howdy, Ag

Just dug it out and double checked. The barrel tapes at exactly 22" from breech face to muzzle, which makes for a handy little woods rifle.

Okay, let's try a Friday night price drop - first and last one before it goes elsewhere. Lots of interest but no takers so far!

Price is now $750 plus shipping.

Can be shipped either directly from me or from my FFL, whichever the buyer requires.

Good looking rifle and very underrated caliber. More than capable of taking plains game.

Good luck with sale!
Thank you!

Everyone, please be advised that if another user on here PMs you claiming to know how to contact me via email, that is a SCAM.

I hate the internet sometimes.

Rifle is no longer for sale here. Will be putting it up at the LGS today as I am traveling back to work.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)
